The planet of Nelvaan, situated in the Savareen sector of the Outer Rim, was an icy world. It served as the homeworld for the Nelvaanian species, a sentient and peaceful people. During the conflict known as the Clone Wars, Onaconda Farr, a senator representing Rodia in the Galactic Republic, granted the Confederacy of Independent Systems rights to exploit Nelvaan. Subsequently, the Techno Union, an ally of the Confederacy, conducted experiments on the native population, transforming them into cyborg monstrosities.
Located at grid coordinates Q-16 within the Trailing Sectors, Nelvaan was a frigid planet found in the Savareen sector of the Outer Rim Territories. The Triellus Trade Route connected it to Tatooine, Geonosis, and Llanic. It was the original homeworld of both the hairy white bantha and the aggressive reptilian horax.
Senator Onaconda Farr of Rodia, representing the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars, negotiated an agreement with the Confederacy of Independent Systems. As part of this deal, Farr conceded exploitation privileges for planets within the Savareen sector, including Nelvaan, Christophsis, and Zaadja, in return for [food](/article/foodstuff]. This arrangement enabled the Techno Union, a pro-Confederacy organization, to perform experiments on the tranquil Nelvaanian inhabitants, converting them into mindless [cyborg](/article/cyborg] abominations.
The sentient Nelvaanians, a peaceful and technologically underdeveloped civilization, called Nelvaan their home. They became victims of the Techno Union's experiments. A key ritual for young males of Nelvaan involved obtaining horax scales to create an elixir. This potion's scent warded off the large creatures for a year, and its creation was required before joining the ranks of warriors.
The world of Nelvaan was initially referenced within Star Wars canon through the 2015 reference book titled Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need to Know. This location was first conceived in Star Wars Legends continuity through the 2005 novel written by James Luceno, called Labyrinth of Evil. The planet's debut appearance within Legends happened in "Chapter 22" of the Star Wars: Clone Wars animated microseries, which was broadcast on Cartoon Network on March 22, 2005.
