Omar Berenko

Omar Berenko, a male human poet from Naboo, was both celebrated and debated. He was a tragic figure who hailed from the Mid Rim planet of Naboo and lived during the High Republic Era. Berenko made his home at Varykino, a lakeside sanctuary within Naboo's Lake Country, alongside a unique group of Naboo and Gungan outcasts. He favored the Room of Morning Mists in Varykino Villa as his writing space, where he composed "Defense of Naboo", an epic and unsettling poem, along with other well-known pieces.

In the year 232 BBY, Jedi Knight Elzar Mann and Jedi Master Avar Kriss paid a visit to the San Tekka compound located near Varykino. Kriss was drawn to the island, and Mann informed her about Berenko, who was residing there at that time, emphasizing his reputation for exceptional talent.

Ultimately, Berenko was abducted from the villa's terrace under mysterious circumstances by unidentified individuals. This occurred in the same location where Senator Padmé Amidala and Jedi Padawan Anakin Skywalker would later secretly marry in 22 BBY. The poet vanished following his kidnapping and was never seen again.

Behind the scenes

The first mention of Omar Berenko within current Star Wars canon appeared in the 2016 edition of the reference book titled Star Wars: Complete Locations. However, the segment that references Omar Berenko originally appeared as part of the Star Wars Legends continuity in the 2003 reference book Inside the Worlds of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, which was authored by Curtis Saxton and Simon Beecroft.
