Ottega

Ottega was a planet within the Ottega system, found in both the Mid Rim Territories and the New Territories and designated as grid square M-6 on the Standard Galactic Grid. The Ithorian sun was the star of this system. A hyperspace route connected Ottega to Genassa and also to Tsevuka, a planet in the Outer Rim Territories.

The name Ottega was also used for the Port of Ottega, as well as products like the Ottegan silk textile, the Ottegan charbake smelt necklace, and the Ottegan fibrion scarf, a type of clothing. Praster Ommlen, an Ottegan (a genetic offshoot species of Ithorians from the Ottega system's home planet) who was at one-time a weapons smuggler and monk belonging to the Sacred Order of Ramulus, active around 34 ABY in the galaxy, hailed from this world.

Behind the scenes

The reference book Ultimate Star Wars, New Edition (2019) was the first mention of Ottega in current Star Wars canon. Its origin lies in Star Wars Legends, specifically in the short story "A Bitter Winter," penned by Patricia A. Jackson. This story appeared in the fifth issue ( February 1995) of Star Wars Adventure Journal, a magazine by West End Games. Later, Stephen J. Sansweet's Star Wars Encyclopedia (1998) retroactively identified Ottega as one of the seventy-five planets within the Ottega system. The Ottega system itself had been previously referenced in Bill Slavicsek's A Guide to the Star Wars Universe, Second Edition, Revised and Expanded (1994).
