Once a male Ottegan involved in gunrunning, Praster Ommlen reformed and embraced spirituality, joining the worshipful Sacred Order of Ramulus. Approximately three decades following the Battle of Endor, he could be found within the walls of pirate Maz Kanata's stronghold, imparting spiritual guidance to the assorted criminals present. He was there when the smuggler Han Solo made his appearance, and soon thereafter, he witnessed the destruction of the entire Hosnian system at the hands of the First Order's weapon, Starkiller Base.
Hailing from Ottega, this Ottegan named Praster Ommlen operated as a gunrunner at one point, before abandoning his criminal activities to dedicate himself to the Sacred Order of Ramulus, an Ithorian religious group. Around thirty years had passed since the Battle of Endor when Ommlen took up residence in the castle of the pirate Maz Kanata, providing spiritual counsel to the various criminals who frequented the establishment. During his time there, he encountered the Narquois bandit Pru Sweevant and the Bravaisian gemologists Munduri and Sonsigo.
He was present within the castle when the smuggler Han Solo arrived, accompanied by the scavenger Rey, the ex-stormtrooper Finn, and the astromech droid BB-8. As Solo walked in, Varmik (one of the Hassk triplets) approached Ommlen, who then moved to observe a match of droid ball fighting in progress. The game was stopped when Kanata noticed Solo and loudly called out to him from across the room, causing Ommlen and all the other occupants to stop what they were doing and look at Solo.
He stood among the throng of patrons who surged out of the castle to bear witness to the destruction of the Hosnian system caused by the First Order's Starkiller Base superweapon. Shortly after the disturbing event, the castle itself was attacked and obliterated by the First Order.
When in Maz Kanata's castle, Ommlen was seen wearing worn brown ascetic robes, which did not provide much comfort. He had brown colored skin, black eyes and gray hair.
The character of Praster Ommlen was conceived for the 2015 film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. However, his existence was first revealed to the public seven months prior to the film's release through an exclusive article published on the website of Vanity Fair in May 2015. While the article and the film itself did not identify Ommlen by name, he was later named in the reference book titled Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary, which was authored by Pablo Hidalgo and released in conjunction with the film's release. He was played by Mason Ball and Richard Garaghty in the movie.
