Oyokal was a celestial body primarily devoted to agriculture and astronomical observation. This object was situated within the Chiss Ascendancy, a nation belonging to the Unknown Regions. It served as the homeworld of Xodlak'in'daro, also known as "Lakinda," a Senior Captain of the Chiss military. Lakinda originated from a humble family residing in a farming community on Oyokal. An elderly Chiss once imparted wisdom to her there, stating: "When you sense the saddlebull is about to unseat you, dismount." Later, she enlisted in the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet and became associated with the Ascendancy's Xodlak family. In the year 18 BBY, Lakinda was concerned about the possibility of being returned to her original family after a failed attempt to claim a fabricated nyix metal mine for the Xodlak, a mine controlled by the Agbui species. Consequently, she aligned herself with the Irizi ruling family.
The initial mention of Oyokal within established Star Wars canon occurred in the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good. This novel represents the second installment of Star Wars: The Ascendancy Trilogy, penned by Timothy Zahn. This astronomical feature was visually represented on a map provided by Del Rey, the publishing house, as a pre-order incentive for the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil, which concluded the Ascendancy Trilogy. Within the Star Wars Legends narrative, the planet named Oyokal made its debut in the 2009 reference work titled The Essential Atlas, authored by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry.
