Peet Deretalia was a human individual who held the position of technician within the Resistance ground crew. Throughout her time in this role, Deretalia developed a fondness for Theo Meltsa, an X-wing pilot; however, her shyness prevented her from initiating contact. In 34 ABY, the astromech droid known as BB-8 orchestrated a plan to introduce Deretalia and Meltsa, leading to an immediate connection between the two. As a token of gratitude, Deretalia rewarded BB-8 with a special oil bath and submitted a commendation regarding the droid to Commander Poe Dameron.
As a human technician, Peet Deretalia dedicated her services to the Resistance in their struggle against the First Order. Stationed at the Resistance base located on the planet of D'Qar, where she was a member of the ground crew, Deretalia was responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of both T-70 X-wing starfighters and the droids utilized by the Resistance. During the period she worked as a technician, Deretalia found herself falling in love with Theo Meltsa, a Resistance pilot. Reciprocally, Meltsa harbored similar feelings for Deretalia, yet both individuals were too reserved to take the initiative and introduce themselves.
By 34 ABY, BB-8, the astromech droid, noticed the mutual attraction between Deretalia and Meltsa. Consequently, the droid devised a strategy to facilitate an introduction. BB-8 sabotaged Meltsa's X-wing starfighter and then approached Deretalia, disrupting her work by repeatedly bumping into her. Deretalia initially became annoyed by BB-8's actions and instructed the droid to cease, but the droid persisted, ultimately causing her to lose her balance and fall into Meltsa.
An immediate connection formed between Deretalia and Meltsa, leading the pilot to introduce himself and inquire if she could repair his ship. Deretalia happily agreed, and she suggested they grab a meal together, mentioning her acquaintance with the chef in the mess hall. Meltsa accepted her invitation, and before they departed, Deretalia expressed her gratitude to BB-8 with a kiss. Holding hand-in-hand, Deretalia and Meltsa made their way toward the mess hall.
Later on, Deretalia treated BB-8 to an extended oil bath as a special reward. She also composed a message to Commander Poe Dameron, commending BB-8's wisdom. In her message, Deretalia voiced her concerns regarding Meltsa's well-being and requested that Dameron keep an eye on him. Dameron eventually included a copy of this message in his flight log, which he compiled after the Battle of Starkiller Base in 34 ABY.
Deretalia possessed black hair, green eyes, and a complexion of dark shade. She harbored feelings of affection for Meltsa, but she was too timid and shy to introduce herself. Although BB-8's disruption of her work initially caused her annoyance, she became appreciative once she understood the droid's intentions. Deretalia felt worried for Meltsa's safety each time he piloted his X-wing, and she communicated these concerns to Dameron. BB-8 held the position of her favorite droid, and she regularly pampered him with oil baths.
In her capacity as a technician, Deretalia carried out maintenance procedures on T-70 X-wing starfighters, and she was also tasked with maintaining Resistance droids. When BB-8 sabotaged the motivator of Meltsa's X-wing, Deretalia was able to repair the ship with ease.
Deretalia was typically seen wearing brown gloves, black boots, and green overalls over a dark-green shirt. When she was performing maintenance on Resistance starfighters, Deretalia carried a toolbox containing various tools. As a technician responsible for the Resistance's droid pool, Deretalia had access to oil baths.
Peet Deretalia made her debut in "SaBBotage," a comic story created by Chris Eliopoulos and Jordie Bellaire. The story was featured in the first issue of the Star Wars: Poe Dameron comic-book series, which was released on April 6, 2016. The name "Peet Deretalia" is a tuckerization of "Pete The Retailer," who is a co-host of the Star Wars Minute fan podcast.
