Penrie

Penrie, a human male identified as NA811, originated from the planet Lothal and served the Imperial Navy as a pilot during the Galactic Civil War. He attended the academy alongside officer Ciena Ree, and was a member of Death Squadron stationed on the Executor, an _Executor_-class Star Dreadnought. His life ended when his TIE Fighter collided with an asteroid during the pursuit of the Millennium Falcon shortly after the Battle of Hoth, resulting in him being killed.

Biography

Penrie began his service to the Galactic Empire as a cadet at the Imperial Academy situated on the planet Lothal. Progressing through the ranks, he became a TIE pilot, designated NA811, within the Imperial Navy. As the war progressed, he found himself stationed aboard the Executor, an Executor-class Star Dreadnought that served as the flagship of Death Squadron. Following the Battle of Hoth, Penrie, along with three other pilots, piloted TIE/ln space superiority starfighters in pursuit of the Millennium Falcon. As they navigated an asteroid field, Lieutenant Commander Ciena Ree provided navigational assistance to Penrie and his squadron. Ree noticed that Penrie's breathing became rapid and shallow after pilots JA189 and CR978 were killed. Eventually, their target executed a maneuver to land on an asteroid. Admiral Firmus Piett approved Ree's request to recall the remaining pilots. Penrie's surviving wingman, OL701, reported that they were following the Millennium Falcon as they approached the "Big One," and into a canyon. Shortly after this, Penrie perished in a collision with an asteroid, followed soon after by OL701.

Personality and traits

Penrie's defining characteristic was his infectious laugh. Fellow officer Ciena Ree remembered that his laughter was so contagious that it invariably spread to those around him. Ree also observed that Penrie was easily amused, making such occurrences frequent.

Behind the scenes

Penrie's introduction occurred in Lost Stars, a young adult novel penned by Claudia Gray as a component of the Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens series. While Penrie does not appear visually in Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, it has been confirmed that he was among the pilots engaged in the pursuit of the Millennium Falcon within the Asteroid Field.
