Pog soup
Pog soup was a staple soup in the traditional Mandalorian warrior society; it was ingested from a young age. In 9 ABY, after Bo-Katan Kryze saved Din Djarin from a local scavenger near the remains of the Civic Center within the city of Sundari on the planet of Mandalore, Kryze made Djarin some pog soup while he was recovering. Djarin is a member of the Children of the Watch, an orthodox Mandalorian religious group. When she offered him the prepared dish, Djarin expressed that he had never consumed it before, to Kryze's surprise, which she found to be quite an irony.
History

Traditionally, pog soup was a common food for members of the mainstream Mandalorian warrior culture, beginning in childhood. Around 9 ABY, Bo-Katan Kryze, a human Mandalorian, rescued Din Djarin from a scavenger. Djarin is a human member of the Children of the Watch, an orthodox Mandalorian religious group. The scavenger had captured Djarin in the ruins of the Civic Center of Sundari on Mandalore, a planet in the Outer Rim Territories, with the intent of harvesting his blood.
Kryze then took Djarin and his young foundling ward, the alien Grogu, to a rocky outcropping overlooking the ruins. While Djarin was recovering, she prepared a metal cup of pog soup over a fire. While cooking the soup, with Grogu watching, Kryze added a powder from a pouch she carried and stirred it in with a spoon.
Kryze eventually gave the cup of soup to Djarin. He asked what it was, and to her surprise, confirmed he had never had the dish. As he consumed the pog soup, Kryze remarked on the irony of the situation, stating that Mandalorians "worth their armor" ate the soup from a very young age, even when they were Grogu's size. After Djarin finished, he gave the cup to Grogu, who looked inside. The trio then left the ledge.
Behind the scenes

Pog soup was first seen in "Chapter 18: The Mines of Mandalore," the second episode of The Mandalorian's third season, a Disney+ show. The episode was broadcast on March 8, 2023. For the episode, Andrée Wallin created concept art depicting Bo-Katan Kryze preparing pog soup in a saucepan.
Jenn Fujikawa, a culinary writer, provided a recipe for a creamy real-world version of pog soup in an article published on StarWars.com one week after the episode's release. The recipe called for bell peppers, olive oil, sweet onion, carrot, shallot, garlic, ginger, curry powder, turmeric, coriander, salt, vegetable broth, and coconut milk. The article also incorrectly stated that "Chapter 18: The Mines of Mandalore" claimed Mandalorian foundlings were required to drink pog soup as a rite of passage.
