Police probe

A police probe, alternatively known as a police cam droid, represented a specific model of probe droid. It was deployed by the Coruscant Security Force to maintain law and order on the Galactic Republic's [capital](/article/capital] planet, Coruscant. These probes patrolled the streets of Galactic City, identifying criminal activity and potential suspects. Upon detection, they would summon assistance from nearby GU-series Guardian police droids and police officers. One such probe was present following the killing of Davu Golec from the Republic Ministry of Intelligence by an assassin. Spotting Duchess Satine Kryze of Mandalore at the crime scene with a [blaster](/article/blaster] in hand, the probe identified her as a suspect. After alerting other security personnel, the probe initiated a pursuit, though the Duchess ultimately evaded capture.

Description

To signify their affiliation with the Coruscant Security Force, police probes were painted in a distinctive blue-gray color. Their structure was generally an ellipsoid shape, composed of two bowl-shaped sections joined with a recessed center. The top featured lights encased in short, cone-shaped protrusions, one emitting a blue light and the other a red light. The front was equipped with two red photoreceptors, extending from conical housings and connected to sensors, along with a camera. These droids possessed a siren, an antenna for communication, transmission capabilities, and the ability to communicate in basic with a masculine voice.

History

During a clandestine meeting on the planet Coruscant between Davu Golec of the Republic Ministry of Intelligence and Duchess Satine Kryze of Mandalore, a [blaster](/article/blaster] shot fired by an assassin from the Mandalorian terrorist organization Death Watch resulted in Golec's death. Responding to the sound, a police probe arrived at the scene. Observing only Duchess Kryze, the probe concluded she was responsible for Golec's demise. As the Duchess fled, the probe, after notifying nearby security forces, pursued her, with GU-series Guardian police droids and Coruscant Guard shock troopers joining the chase. The Duchess managed to disable the probe with her blaster, enabling her escape. She later surrendered to the Senate Guard, and her innocence was eventually proven. Another probe appeared in a market when the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 visited to purchase jogan fruit for a cake prepared to honor Senator Aang.

Behind the scenes

The police probe was conceived for the animated television program Star Wars: The Clone Wars, with Tom Kane providing its voice. Its initial appearance occurred in the fourteenth episode of Season Two, entitled "Duchess of Mandalore." It also made brief cameos in the eighth episode of Season Three, "Evil Plans," and the seventeenth episode of Season Five, "Sabotage."
