Pollux Hax

Pollux Hax was a male individual who held the position of Minister of Information within COMPNOR during a significant portion of Emperor Sheev Palpatine's rule. His responsibilities included ensuring that journalists reported information in accordance with Imperial propaganda. Furthermore, Hax collaborated with Eris Harro, the Bureau Chief of the Outer Rim Node for HoloNet News, to alert the public about a rebellious group operating from Lothal.

Biography

Pollux Hax was a male administrator within the Galactic Empire, an autocratic government established by Sheev Palpatine following the conclusion of the Clone Wars. By 3272 LY, which is equivalent to fourteen years after the Empire's inception, he served as Palpatine's Minister of Information, working from Level 5127 in the Federal District of Coruscant. In this role, he was affiliated with the Coalition for Progress, a subsidiary of the Commission for the Preservation of the New Order, often shortened to COMPNOR. The minister's office was located within the COMPNOR arcology, a structure situated on the uppermost level of Coruscant. Notably, Hax was responsible for guaranteeing that the content disseminated by the HoloNet News, the Empire's sole authorized news outlet, aligned with the government's official narrative.

In the year 3272 LY, Hax closely coordinated with Eris Harro, the Bureau Chief overseeing the Outer Rim Node of HoloNet News. Together, they composed a congratulatory message for new members of the Imperial Press Corps, bestowing upon them their official press badges. To suppress dissident behavior, Hax and Harro also furnished the Imperial Press Corps with a set of six wanted posters showcasing the members of a rebellious group operating out of Lothal.

Hax also authored a guide called An Imperial Guide to Coruscant in which he argued for the segregation of non-humans residing in urban areas from humans, purportedly to allow them to live according to their own traditions. However, according to historian Beaumont Kin, Hax's actual motivation was to forcibly isolate non-humans from humans. Hax further rationalized segregation by highlighting the diverse array of species present on Coruscant, including refugees from the Clone Wars, and their inclination to reside near others of their kind.

Personality and traits

In his communications to the Imperial Press Corps, Pollux Hax expressed unwavering devotion to the Empire, as was expected of a member of COMPNOR. He urged journalists to be vigilant for potential insurgents and to report any suspicious activities to the military. Hax firmly believed that the safety of the galaxy could be best ensured through close collaboration between journalists and Imperial officials.

Behind the scenes

The character Pollux Hax was first introduced in The Illustrated Star Wars Universe, a 1995 reference book authored by Kevin J. Anderson. Hax, identified as the head of "the Emperor's Propaganda Dissemination Section," served as the in-universe narrator for the book's second chapter. His depiction in the book, portraying him as a male humanoid in purple robes, was a repurposed piece of concept art originally created by Nilo Rodis-Jamero for Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi. As of April 25, 2014, The Illustrated Star Wars Universe is classified as part of Star Wars Legends, formerly known as the Expanded Universe, and is therefore no longer considered canon.

Nevertheless, Pollux Hax was referenced in promotional materials for the television series Star Wars Rebels, and received a brief mention in the Databank on StarWars.com, effectively reintegrating a version of the character into canon.
