R0-VR, sometimes called Rover or Ar-Oh, was an astromech droid that belonged to Ty Yorrick, a former Jedi who also worked as a saber-for-hire, during the High Republic Era. Frequently acting like a puppy, R0-VR displayed the personality of a devoted dog. Yorrick was accompanied on her monster hunting jobs by the astromech droid and her admin unit, KL-03. Despite its usefulness, Yorrick didn't bother naming R0-VR, viewing it as merely a tool.
During the age of the High Republic, Ty Yorrick was the owner of R0-VR. Yorrick, once a Jedi who left the Jedi Order as a Padawan, had transitioned to a career as a saber-for-hire and monster hunter. Aboard her starship, a YT-750 freighter, the astromech droid journeyed alongside Yorrick and her admin unit KL-03. Yorrick saw no reason to name the droid, considering it, much like KL-03 and her [freighter](/article/freighter], as simply a tool. Nonetheless, Yorrick acknowledged R0-VR's utility, as the droid helped repair her vessel, which was damaged and on the verge of breaking down, despite Yorrick's efforts to earn money through her work.
After Yorrick was engaged by a wealthy beast-trader to capture a gundark, R0-VR went with her to Blarrum, a celestial body located in the Outer Rim Territories. R0-VR busied itself with repairing her starship as Yorrick tried to subdue the creature.
Approximately three months following the Blarrum incident, Yorrick was hired to save the son of a marsh-lord on the planet Safrifa. After Yorrick finished the rescue and also handled a Drengir problem for the local Safrifan farmers, she was approached by the inventor Mantessa Chekkat. Chekkat hired Yorrick as a bodyguard during a visit to the planet Valo for the Republic Fair. However, Chekkat insisted they travel on her ship, the Dynamo, which displeased R0-VR and KL-03. Needing credits, Yorrick accepted the job, docking her own ship at Port Haileap. Despite R0-VR's protests, Yorrick left her two droids behind.
Being an astromech droid, R0-VR, also referred to as Rover, exhibited traits of a devoted canine, often acting like an adoring puppy. The droid stood on two legs, supporting a cylindrical body that tapered upwards. R0-VR featured tan plating, and its front plate had three white sensors. The astromech droid also had a tool for repairing starships.
Cavan Scott conceived R0-VR for the Star Wars: The High Republic project. The character was first seen in the Characters of Star Wars: The High Republic video focusing on Ty Yorrick, which was released on April 15, 2021. Scott's novel, The High Republic: The Rising Storm, published on June 29, 2021, confirmed the droid's identity.
The droid's design was inspired by concept art for L3-37 from Solo: A Star Wars Story by Jake Lunt Davies. Scott, who had seen the concept in The Art of Solo: A Star Wars Story, enjoyed the design and wanted to include it in The High Republic.
