In the year 3643 BBY, during the personal war waged by Sith Lord Darth Angral against the Galactic Republic, which occurred during the Cold War between the Republic and the re-established Sith Empire, a group of Mark II Power Guards – highly advanced supersoldiers enhanced with cybernetics – mounted an assault on a safe house located on the moon known as Nar Shaddaa. This safe house was under the protection of the Republic Strategic Information Service. The Power Guards were dispatched by the Sith Lord Sadic, who had extracted the safe house's location through torture inflicted upon SIS Agent Galen. While the Power Guards did slay several agents, the timely arrival of a young Jedi Knight – only a few minutes after the attack began – spared the remaining agents, as the Knight defeated the Power Guards.
Darth Angral, a Sith Lord, initiated a personal war against the Galactic Republic in 3643 BBY during the Cold War that was ongoing between the Republic and the Sith Empire. This declaration came after the death of his son, Tarnis. Angral utilized stolen information concerning the Republic superweapon initiative to direct his apprentices to seize control of multiple Republic superweapon programs. Sadic, one of Angral's apprentices, was assigned the task of acquiring the Power Guard Enhancement System, a supersoldier program utilizing adrenal stimulants and cybernetics that was situated on the moon of Nar Shaddaa. Soon after Sadic's forces successfully located and gained control of the project, Agent Galen from the Republic Strategic Information Service—the Republic's intelligence agency—arrived on Nar Shaddaa, attempting to locate the project independently. Sadic soon captured Galen and subjected the operative to the Power Guard process. He also used torture to extract information about the SIS's operations on the moon.
A young Jedi Knight arrived on Nar Shaddaa soon after, searching for both Galen and the project. With the assistance of the SIS branch led by Bureau Chief Rieekan, the Jedi Knight managed to find the main Power Guard Cybernetics Lab. After dispatching the Imperial guards at the facility, the Jedi found an encrypted datapad that could reveal where Sadic had relocated the project. Rieekan requested the Knight to bring the datapad back to the SIS safe house within the Promenade shopping complex. However, Sadic dispatched a trio of Mark II Power Guards to the safe house, intending to end their interference.
The Power Guards entered Gudnem's Gadget Emporium, the store used as a front for the safe house, and killed the staff. They then used Galen's passcodes and overrides to access the rear turbolift that led to the safe house. The Power Guards quickly overwhelmed the surprised SIS agents within the safe house, and Rieekan was killed in the firefight. The Jedi Knight arrived minutes after the Power Guards, and, upon finding several Power Guards still in Gudnem's Gadget Emporium, the Knight and a companion defeated the mind-controlled supersoldiers and headed down to the safe house. They arrived just in time to prevent the Power Guards from killing the remaining agents, including Special Agent Korol Tander and Agent Diyaz.
Due to the heavy losses among the SIS staff, Tander wanted to withdraw completely. However, the Knight convinced Diyaz to decrypt the datapad, which Diyaz then used to trace the Power Guard project to an Imperial weapons factory in the Lower Industrial Sector. Diyaz placed a tracker on the Knight as the Jedi left to destroy the factory. Although the remaining SIS agents abandoned the safe house, Tander also contacted General Var Suthra, who dispatched the special operations unit Blackstar Squad to assist in destroying the Power Guard project.
The loss of the safe house was a significant setback for SIS operations on the moon, prompting SIS Director Marcus Trant to be notified. He cited the attack a week later as a cautionary tale when allowing Agent Theron Shan to pursue a mission into Imperial space.
The attack on the SIS safe house was initially referenced in the second issue of The Lost Suns comic-book miniseries, which was a tie-in to the then-upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic video game. This issue, written by Alexander Freed, was released on July 20, 2011, five months prior to the release of The Old Republic. The actual attack was then depicted in the Jedi Knight-class mission "Striking Back" on Nar Shaddaa within The Old Republic.
Following the attack, the player has three options to persuade Tander and Diyaz: asking Tander to stay, using Force Persuade on him, or physically striking him. Harming Tander results in the acquisition of dark-side alignment points. However, given that the Jedi Knight is a Republic class and, therefore, assumed to select options that maximize light-side alignment points, this article assumes that the player refrained from attacking Tander.
