Ry-Gaul

Ry-Gaul was a male Human Jedi Master. In the waning years of the Galactic Republic, he was a member of the Jedi Order. During the Clone Wars, Ry-Gaul served as a Senior General within the Grand Army of the Republic, battling against the forces of the Separatist Droid Army. After the Galactic Empire replaced the Republic and the Jedi Order was no more, Master Ry-Gaul went into hiding, but he eventually died during the Great Jedi Purge.

Biography

Jedi Master

Ry-Gaul, a Human who was Force-sensitive, was trained by the Jedi Order at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where he rose to the rank of Jedi Master. Widely admired by his fellow Jedi, Master Ry-Gaul was a tall and imposing figure, known for his extensive knowledge of the galaxy. He was a quiet man, speaking only when necessary, which showed how thoughtful he was. Having crafted a lightsaber with a silver blade while he was a Jedi Knight, Master Ry-Gaul chose Tru Veld, a young Teevan Initiate, to be his Padawan around 32 BBY.

During the Separatist Crisis, which caused problems for the Galactic Senate, Master Ry-Gaul and his Padawan Veld were dispatched on numerous peacekeeping missions, including maintaining order during the Galactic Games on Euceron and stopping conflict on Radnor. In 23 BBY, Master and apprentice accompanied Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, Siri Tachi, and Soara Antana, as well as Padawans Anakin Skywalker, Ferus Olin, and Darra Thel-Tanis, on a perilous journey to Korriban, the Sith tomb world. This mission, which aimed to find and capture Sith Cultist Granta Omega and the insane scientist Jenna Zan Arbor, resulted in the death of Thel-Tanis when Veld's lightsaber failed.

Clone Wars

When the Clone Wars began between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Master Ry-Gaul became a Senior General in the Grand Army of the Republic and commanded clone troopers of the 2nd Sector Army against the Separatist Droid Army.

In the final months of the war, Grand Master Yoda gave Master Ry-Gaul a top-secret mission to the Outer Rim Territories. While he was gone, he asked his former Padawan and friend, Jedi Veld, to research weapons in the Archives of the Jedi Temple, believing he would be safe. While Master Ry-Gaul was on his mission, Palpatine, the Supreme Chancellor of the Republic, revealed his true nature to the Jedi Order and issued Order 66, a Contingency order to the Grand Army that commanded the clones to kill their Jedi allies. The Order was effectively destroyed, the Republic fell, and the Galactic Empire, led by the Sith, took its place.

Exile

Master Ry-Gaul was unaware of the events happening in the galaxy because he was undercover. However, Tobin Gantor and Linna Naltree, two scientists, found him and helped him avoid being found by the Empire by giving him fake ID and helping him get back to Coruscant to find out what had happened. After learning that Tru Veld had died in the attack on the Temple on Coruscant, Master Ry-Gaul went into the Coruscant underworld, where he met Master Fy-Tor-Ana, now known as Solace. Master Ana had been looking for him to warn him that Hydra, the Imperial Grand Inquisitor, was also searching for him, the former Senior General.

While on Coruscant, Master Ry-Gaul discovered that scientists were disappearing around the galaxy, including Gantor and Naltree, who had saved him. Master Ry-Gaul, along with Master Ana and her companion, former Jedi Ferus Olin, met a young boy named Lune Divinian. He agreed to train the Force-sensitive boy, but he soon realized that he couldn't handle it because he had more important things to do, so Divinian was sent to Olin's hidden asteroid base to train with Master Garen Muln.

Master Ry-Gaul, along with Trever Flume, a young friend of Ferus Olin, set out to rescue Linna Naltree from the clutches of the insane scientist Jenna Zan Arbor. The Jedi Master and Flume infiltrated her apartment on Coruscant and had to defend themselves while escorting Naltree to a turbolift. As Zan Arbor and her security team closed in, Ry-Gaul drew his lightsaber, and Naltree injected Zan Arbor with her own memory-erasing drug, erasing Zan Arbor's brilliant but twisted mind.

After completing his mission, Master Ry-Gaul and his team of allies faced the challenge of escaping Imperial City. In an attempt to find a way off-world, they attended the Galactic Luxury Starship Manufacturers Convention. Ry-Gaul used the Force to persuade an executive from Sleeker Systems to sell a prototype of a new model. Shortly after leaving, the team discovered a homing beacon attached to the ship, which led them to uncover a traitor in their group. Flame, a Rebel leader who had worked with them on many missions, was revealed to be Eve Yarrow, an Imperial agent. Ry-Gaul acted quickly and abandoned the ship at a remote spaceport, while Master Ana left Yarrow on a distant world. The Jedi team then regrouped at the hidden asteroid base established by Ferus Olin.

Death

Despite their efforts, the hidden base did not provide the safety and peace they had hoped for. Another traitor had infiltrated the group, and they were all betrayed when Darth Vader arrived to destroy the base with his new superweapon. As the group attempted to escape, their remaining starfighters were destroyed, sabotaged by the traitor on the base. Masters Ry-Gaul, Ana, and Muln, stranded, placed the young acolyte Lune Divinian in an escape pod and launched him safely away from the asteroid.

The three Jedi, former colleagues from a bygone era, stood together, realizing and accepting that they could not win. Vader's superweapon fired, completely destroying the asteroid and killing everyone on it.

Personality and traits

Ry-Gaul was known as a tall, quiet, and dignified man who did not speak often. However, when he did speak, people listened because his wisdom and experience made him widely respected.

Powers and abilities

Ry-Gaul was a skilled lightsaber combatant, but he often avoided fights by simply intimidating his opponents. Obi-Wan Kenobi noted that his technique resembled Qui-Gon Jinn's version of Ataru. Kenobi also observed that, like Jinn, Ry-Gaul moved with surprising speed and grace for his size, and his great strength never diminished.
