The Sandral and Matale families were embroiled in a bitter dispute known as the Sandral-Matale feud. This conflict unfolded on Dantooine during the tumultuous era of the Jedi Civil War. The animosity ceased in 3956 BBY, thanks to the intervention of Revan, a Jedi Padawan.
A deep-seated mutual dislike existed between the two families. Ahlan Matale actively sought the involvement of the Jedi Order to mediate the situation. His pleas intensified in 3956 BBY following the disappearance of his son, Shen. Nurik Sandral had orchestrated Shen's abduction as retribution for the vanishing of his own son, Casus. However, Casus had tragically perished on the plains, killed by kath hounds, an event unrelated to the family feud.

The origins of the feud can be traced back to Ahlan Matale's decision to relocate to Dantooine, driven by his discontent with life in the Core Worlds. Upon settling on the planet, he encountered the Sandrals, who had arrived around the same time. A mutual antipathy quickly developed. Matale suspected Nurik Sandral of coveting his wealth, while Sandral viewed Matale as an overbearing individual who used his credits to dominate others.

Frequent disputes erupted between the two families, with the animosity poisoning the relationships between their children. On one occasion, Sandral droids were detected near the Matale estate, prompting the Matale droids to destroy them. Matale was convinced that the droids had been dispatched either to assassinate him or to gather intelligence for an impending attack. However, Sandral had actually sent the droids to locate his missing son, Casus, believing Matale had kidnapped him.
Weeks later, the feud reached a boiling point when Shen Matale disappeared. His father immediately suspected Sandral of being responsible. Fearing for his son's safety, Matale refrained from launching an outright attack and instead appealed to the Jedi Order at their enclave for intervention. Vrook Lamar grew increasingly irritated by Matale's persistent requests and threatened to retaliate against his rival if the Jedi did not take action.
In 3956 BBY, the Jedi dispatched Revan, an amnesiac Jedi Padawan, to investigate Shen Matale's disappearance. Revan began by questioning Matale at his estate before proceeding to the Sandral estate. However, Matale's attempt to bribe Revan with credits to expedite the search for his son angered the Padawan.
Revan soon discovered kath hounds near a corpse, which was identified as Casus Sandral. A nearby datapad revealed that he had been attacked while exploring the ancient Rakatan ruins on the planet. His disappearance had led his father to believe Matale was involved, prompting him to kidnap Shen in retaliation, despite having no knowledge of his son's death. Revan informed Nurik of his son's demise and returned his datapad. Before leaving, Revan encountered Nurik's daughter, Rahasia, who confessed her love for Shen, whom Nurik had kidnapped and was holding captive on their estate. Rahasia sought Revan's assistance in freeing Shen, who agreed to leave on the condition that Rahasia would join him to escape her father's wrath.
Revan reunited the two lovers outside the estate, only to be interrupted by Ahlan Matale, accompanied by two droids. He had grown impatient and decided to rescue Shen himself. Nurik and two of his droids also arrived to confront Matale, with both elders attempting to keep their children apart. Revan persuaded them to allow their children to be together, leading to a compromise where they would purchase an estate for the couple and take steps to end their bitter feud.
Even if informed of his son's death, Nurik Sandral will remain convinced that Ahlan Matale was responsible for his disappearance.
If Revan fails to convince Ahlan and Nurik to allow their children to live together, the couple will seek refuge in the Jedi Enclave, enraging their parents. Matale vows to retrieve Shen at any cost.
It is possible to persuade Shen to abandon Rahasia and return home with Ahlan, leaving Rahasia heartbroken and in her father's care. The player can manipulate Shen into believing that his relationship with Rahasia is doomed or even incite hatred towards her.
The dark side path allows the player to falsely accuse Ahlan of killing Casus, leading Nurik to murder Shen in revenge, and Ahlan to retaliate by killing Rahasia. This escalates with Nurik killing Ahlan, followed by Ahlan's droids eliminating Nurik before turning on the player, initiating a battle. The player can then lie to the Jedi Council about the incident to gain dark side points.
