Starklebirds, sometimes simply called starkles, were a migratory species of bird with a carnivorous diet. They resided on the planet [Saleucami], situated in the Outer Rim Territories. These starklebirds congregated in flocks, finding refuge within the multiple tiers of greater cake trees.
During 4 ABY, a starklebird flock's eastward migration brought them close enough to the Taffral house on Saleucami that the Taffral family could discern their vocalizations while sharing an evening meal. Dav Taffral and Webb Taffral, the two sons in the family, found themselves on opposing sides of the continuing Galactic Civil War and began to dispute the war during the meal. Their father, Glen Taffral, likened their quarreling to starklebirds squabbling over the first and last worms, asserting that family should have been prioritized over any allegiance.
The initial mention of Starklebirds appeared in the 2015 novel Aftermath, penned by Chuck Wendig. This novel marked the beginning of the Star Wars: The Aftermath Trilogy.
