Stone peppers functioned as a potential component of Nine-Egg Stew, a foodstuff conceived by Jedi Master Porter Engle; these peppers were an option, not a requirement. Similar to the stew itself, stone peppers were a diet suitable for consumption by humans, Ikkrukkians, and Twi'leks. Back in 232 BBY, at the Elphrona Outpost located on the planet Elphrona, Engle prepared Nine-Egg Stew for breakfast, serving it to Jedi Padawan Bell Zettifar and Jedi Master Loden Greatstorm, who ate it with Tholothian Jedi Knight Indeera Stokes. On that day, Zettifar, who had a great liking for the stew, praised its deliciousness; Engle explained that the flavor came from the excellent stone peppers he had obtained from the market and then incorporated into the dish.
Charles Soule mentioned stone peppers in his 2021 novel, The High Republic: Light of the Jedi. This novel was written as part of Phase I of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative.
