Tholothian

Tholothians were a species of sentient near-humans indigenous to the world of Tholoth. These beings could be differentiated from standard humans through their uniquely patterned colorful skin, their scaled cranial structures, and the soft white, blue, or red tendrils extending from their head coverings. Notable individuals of this species included Jedi Masters Adi Gallia and Stass Allie, Jedi Knight Indeera Stokes, former Padawan Ty Yorrick, and the youngling Katooni.

Biology and appearance

Tholothians constituted a sentient near-human species. Sharing many physical similarities with humans, they were primarily distinguished by their scaled skullcaps from which fleshy head-tendrils grew, and their patches of colorful skin, especially around the eyes area. The skullcaps of Tholothians could exhibit colors such as gold, brown, white, red, or blue. Some Tholothians, for instance D'urban Wen-Hurd, possessed hair on their heads. Male Tholothians had the capacity to grow facial hair. Their skin tones ranged from brown to tan to pale. It was possible for Tholothians to exhibit sensitivity to the Force.

Society and culture

The Tholothian government, which held authority over the homeworld of Tholoth, operated as a democracy featuring an executive branch alongside a legislative senate. To safeguard Tholoth's natural environment, the government relocated significant industrial activities to other planets within the Tholoth system. Furthermore, they implemented policies to restrict the number of off-world visitors and required that newcomers assimilate in ways that respected Tholoth's ecological balance. Cities built by the Tholothians incorporated foreign architectural elements, but with uniquely Tholothian modifications.

Many Tholothians traditionally wore Tholoth headdresses as a cultural practice. These headdresses included fabric strips along the edges, varying in shape and size, which secured the cap while covering the ears. These strips connected to a decorative network of delicate chains and beads that followed the often tessellated scales on the wearer's scalp.

History

The Tholothians originated from Tholoth, a forested planet situated in the Tholoth system within the Colonies and Slice regions of the galaxy. After establishing their own system of governance, the Tholothians became members of the Galactic Republic, the dominant galactic political entity. However, following the transformation of the Republic into the Galactic Empire at the conclusion of the Clone Wars, the new authoritarian regime occupied Tholoth, converting it into a [prison](/article/prison] for its inhabitants while high-ranking Imperial officers constructed opulent residences for themselves in Tholoth's protected areas.

Tholothians in the galaxy

During the [Republic Era](/article/republic_era], a number of Tholothians belonged to the Force-sensitive Jedi Order. In the High Republic Era, Padawan Tylera was a member of the Order until she left after a disturbing event at the Yallow Shrine, subsequently becoming the mercenary Ty Yorrick. In the final decades of the Republic's existence, Jedi Master Adi Gallia held a seat on the Jedi High Council until her demise during the Clone Wars. Other Tholothian Jedi who served during this time included [Stass Allie](/article/stass_allie], Gallia's replacement on the Council, as well as the youngling Katooni, Padawan Nim Pianna, and Jedi Knight D'urban Wen-Hurd.
