Nine-Egg Stew, alternatively known as 9-egg stew, is a yellow stew that originated with Jedi Master Porter Engle. He created this dish during his time as a cook stationed at the Elphrona Outpost during the High Republic Era. Its defining characteristic is the inclusion of nine distinct varieties of eggs, which gives the stew its name. The recipe could also incorporate stone peppers. This edible dish was served during meals such as breakfast and was enjoyed by various species. It was particularly favored by Jedi Padawan Bell Zettifar while he was on the planet of Elphrona during his time there.
The Jedi stationed at the Elphrona outpost were served this stew for breakfast in 232 BBY. Later, around 3 ABY, two Imperial stormtroopers aboard the Raider-class corvette named King's Ransom had a conversation about Nine-Egg Stew, comparing it unfavorably to Joppa stew.
Nine-Egg Stew, also called 9-egg stew, is a yellow stew suitable for breakfast. As the name implies, this stew is made with nine different kinds of eggs. The recipe also allows for the inclusion of stone peppers. The stew's texture is thick, featuring white pieces suspended in the liquid, and it's edible for humans, Ikkrukkians, and Twi'leks.

Jedi Master Porter Engle created Nine-Egg Stew during his assignment as a cook at the Jedi outpost on the planet Elphrona, located in the Outer Rim, during the High Republic Era. Despite his formidable reputation among his enemies, Engle was known for preparing this stew for his allies, considering it his greatest achievement. He would only share the identities of five of the nine egg varieties used in the stew. When Bell Zettifar, a human Jedi Padawan apprenticed to Twi'lek Jedi Master Loden Greatstorm, arrived on Elphrona, he quickly developed a fondness for the stew. Zettifar suspected the eggs Engle kept secret were either incredibly rare or unappealing.
In 232 BBY, the Jedi residing at the Elphrona outpost—including Engle, Zettifar, Greatstorm, and the Tholothian Jedi Knight Indeera Stokes—enjoyed Nine-Egg Stew for breakfast after Zettifar had spent the early morning training with Greatstorm and Stokes on the Force power known as controlled descent. Observing that falling seemed like hard work, Engle offered Zettifar more stew after noticing his bowl was empty. The Padawan accepted, commenting that the stew tasted particularly good that day, which Engle attributed to the stone peppers he had recently acquired, explaining he had found some "nice hard ones" at the market. After Zettifar asked for more stew, his pet charhound Ember reacted, knowing he was the Jedi most likely to share food with her. Greatstorm finished his bowl while Zettifar enjoyed his second serving.
As the Jedi finished their breakfast and discussed their plans for the day, Engle had a servitor droid clear the table. He had intended to clean the dishes himself before the Jedi were urgently summoned to respond to the Nihil pirates raid on the Blythe homestead. During the raid, Greatstorm was captured by the Nihil and presumed dead.
During the year he was held as a captive by Eye of the Nihil Marchion Ro and subjected to almost constant torture, the Jedi Master sometimes dreamt of being back on Elphrona, recalling the aroma of Nine-Egg Stew. In 231 BBY, Greatstorm experienced one such dream before being awakened by the Nihil Chadra-Fan Doctor Kisma Uttersond. In 229 BBY, Engle found himself trapped within the Nihil's territory known as the Occlusion Zone. To survive, he resorted to eating a type of brown stew stored in packets aboard his shuttle, the Torment. While on the planet Daedus that year, the Jedi Master ate the stew, thinking that while it wasn't Nine-Egg Stew, it would suffice.
Around 3 ABY, a stormtrooper aboard the Imperial Raider-class corvette King's Ransom commented that they had eaten Joppa stew for the third time that week. Another stormtrooper replied that it was preferable to Nine-Egg Stew, which they dismissed as a "monstrosity." Later that year, the malevolent droid intelligence known as the Scourge reflected on its actions while addressing one of its bodies, referred to as the "Elder." The Scourge likened the harm it had caused to the nine eggs needed for Nine-Egg Stew, suggesting the harm was incidental to other objectives and therefore necessary.
Nine-Egg Stew made its debut in the 2021 novel The High Republic: Light of the Jedi, penned by Charles Soule as part of Phase I of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project. A StarWars.com article previewing the conclusion of the phase capitalized the dish as "nine-egg stew." The first visual representation of the stew appeared in a Characters of Star Wars: The High Republic video about Porter Engle, released on the official Star Wars YouTube channel on November 4, 2022. A This Week! in Star Wars video posted on the official Star Wars YouTube channel on November 3, 2023, later identified the stew as 9-egg stew, showcasing concept art of characters for Phase III of the project, including Engle.
