Despite his vow of silence, Ni's imposing presence and body language frequently conveyed his thoughts, given that all Lorrdians are known for their marked expressiveness and distinctive natural scent. He utilized his clothing to mask this expressiveness and uphold his vow, though it couldn't entirely conceal the inherent expressiveness of his posture and movements.

Before the film's debut on December 16, 2016, the character made his initial appearance in the second story trailer for Rogue One, which was unveiled on October 13, 2016. The character's identification was first established in the companion reference book, Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide, authored by Pablo Hidalgo and launched on the same day as the film.
It seems the character's name is a partial tuckerization referencing Rodney Tosh, a stunt performer in the film who played one of the Lorrdians. Costume concept art by Adam Brockbank titled "Jedha Extra Version 7C," depicts the costume worn by Ni and other members of the Brotherhood.
