Tulakt, a soothsayer, frequented Pyloon's Saloon on the planet Koboh during the Imperial Era; she was also a fortune teller.
Before 9 BBY, the Galactic Empire launched an assault on Tulakt's home planet. Believing it to be a safe haven, she guided her family to a secure underground bunker. Regrettably, the Empire's bombardment struck the refuge, resulting in the loss of two of her brothers. Despite this painful experience, she didn't blame herself for the decision to seek shelter there, maintaining it was the right choice at the time, a philosophy she embraced in her life.
She previously participated in a traveling medicine show, where she would wear flamboyant attire and perform fortune readings, while her associates would con the audience. These experiences remained with her, and later, upon her arrival on Koboh, she observed a con artist attempting to deceive someone with Fool's priorite in Rambler's Reach Outpost. Tulakt noticed that he was wearing long sleeves in the heat and intervened, preventing the fraudulent sale, much to the appreciation of Doma Dendra, the unofficial local mayor.
After settling on Koboh, she considered herself not as a prospector, but as someone who unearthed things that were not easily found. She did participate in mining priorite on one occasion, accepting an invitation from prospectors to join their expedition. However, once they descended into the mines, the prospectors abandoned her. Remaining calm, Tulakt relied on her intuition and navigated through the darkness alone, eventually discovering another exit. She later learned that the prospectors who had left her had perished in a Gorocco attack. Realizing she would have died had she followed them, Tulakt interpreted this experience as a lesson to always forge her own path. She even confessed to finding the whole ordeal enlightening.
She was a frequent visitor to Pyloon's Saloon, and in 9 BBY, she remarked to Jedi Knight Cal Kestis that the cantina reminded her of a celebratory dance from her home planet. Although her people did not literally dance, the dance represented her people united. She explained to the Jedi that without the collective essence of everyone, there was nothing. She used examples such as someone ordering a drink from Monk, a joke from Gulu, and a hunting story from Mosey Cimmaron as acts that, when combined, created something greater than the individuals themselves, though she recognized that everyone at the Outpost contributed to its distinct energy. She regarded Doma as the foundation and was certain that the Outpost would crumble without her.
Despite her affection for Koboh, she occasionally experienced homesickness. She longed for the rivers of her home world, where the native vlotti trout leaped over the currents, as well as the taste of banzon and the food, particularly handmade dumplings filled with protato and cushnip.
Following the liberation of the Outpost from the Bedlam Raiders, Tulakt made the decision to depart from Koboh. Before her departure, she gave Kestis his fortune. Although the Jedi didn't fully grasp the meaning of her words, Tulakt explained that it was because he had finally learned the lessons she had imparted. She bade farewell to Kestis, assuring him that he would discover his path with patience.
Tulakt possessed an enigmatic presence, preferring to share her wisdom through fortune telling rather than engaging in lengthy conversations. Although she didn't consider herself a fortune teller, prospectors regularly sought her out to have their fortunes read, hoping to find priorite. Tulakt believed her gift was simply her ability to observe the world around her, and the voices within her mind would speak. She then allowed others to interpret her words as they saw fit.
When speaking with Cal Kestis, she consistently addressed him as sojourner, even after Kestis expressed his preference to be called Cal. However, before leaving Koboh, she finally relented and addressed the Jedi by his full name. She also did not charge Kestis for her insights, believing that a conversation between friends was priceless, even though every fortune had a value. Certain patrons, like Gulu and Gido, struggled to understand their fortunes and dismissed Tulakt's abilities.
Tulakt was of the opinion that the Galactic Empire was fearful of anything it could not control, asserting that culture served as a shield for species and planets, but the Empire perceived it as a threat. She believed that each tradition that disappeared as a result of the Empire would lead to its downfall, adding that an intelligent Empire would assimilate the cultures it conquered and use them against its enemies. She considered the regime to be inflexible and stubborn, and that when the right threat emerged, it would be unable to adapt. Tulakt clarified that these thoughts weren't rooted in hope, but rather in her conviction that they were a known fact, and the only uncertainty was when they would materialize.
