A young male Chadra-Fan child was driven away by an Aleena merchant on the planet Ord Mantell sometime in the period between 5 BBY and 0 BBY. The youngling later pilfered the kyber crystal pendant belonging to the human Jyn Erso. After running away from Erso across the rooftops, Erso eventually caught the child. Upon realizing the Chadra-Fan was simply in need of food, she provided him with a fruit she had obtained from the Aleena merchant. At some point after 34 ABY, Maz Kanata, the pirate queen, shared the tale of the youngling's encounter with Erso as a lesson on the importance of patience to one of her visitors.
In the time frame between 5 BBY and 0 BBY, a male Chadra-Fan youngster dashed past the human Jyn Erso as an Aleena seller pursued him on the planet of Ord Mantell. The youngling went to a rooftop nearby, where he saw the merchant offering many fruits in exchange for Erso's kyber pendant. Erso declined this proposition, opting instead to pay for a single fruit with a credit chip. As Erso departed the vendor's stall, the child shadowed her from the rooftops before sliding down a pole close by and using misdirection to trick Erso. With Erso's focus diverted, the child snatched her pendant and escaped to the rooftops.
Erso almost apprehended the boy when he descended to the ground by rolling off a canopy into a vase, but he quickly ascended a pole and went back to the rooftops. The child traversed a wooden plank connecting two rooftops and discarded it before the human could follow. He chuckled triumphantly before Erso used a pole vault to cross the gap and continue the chase. The Chadra-Fan plunged down a vent and reappeared onto the street, believing he had finally shaken off his pursuer. He tried to go back to the vendor but was caught by Erso, who explained the importance of her necklace to the child. The child gestured towards a bowl of fruit, and Erso realized the child was hungry. She felt compassion for the boy and gave him the fruit she had purchased earlier, for which the Chadra-Fan thanked her before running away.
Sometime after 34 ABY, [Maz Kanata](/article/maz_kanata], the pirate queen, was in search of her dinner when an individual and the Flurrg Roz paid her a visit. Kanata recounted various stories to her visitors as they related to her search. She emphasized the importance of keeping a close watch on important items and exercising patience when looking for them after they are lost before recounting the Chadra-Fan's encounter with Erso.
The Chadra-Fan had brown eyes, a pink nose, and two prominent buck teeth. He possessed brown fur with patches of tan fur at his wrists. He was intelligent, as noted by Jyn Erso when he deceived her and stole her pendant. He was also easily amused, giggling while running from Erso. When desperate, the youngling was also willing to steal from others, taking Erso's pendant to pay for fruits when he was hungry.
The Chadra-Fan youngling made his debut in "Jyn's Trade," the fourth episode of the second season of the Star Wars Forces of Destiny animated micro–series. The episode was initially broadcast on the official Disney YouTube channel on March 19, 2018. While the Chadra-Fan went uncredited in the episode itself, the character received credit in Star Wars Forces of Destiny: Volume 3, a compilation that featured all eight episodes of the second season, released on May 18 of the same year. Identified as "Child," his voice was provided by Catherine Taber.
