A Dug served on the Galactic Republic's Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha during the period known as the High Republic Era. Back in 232 BBY, this Dug was performing routine surveillance when an Emergence, a direct consequence of the Great Hyperspace Disaster, suddenly took place. Subsequently, they alerted the satellite's captain about the approaching hyperspace wreckage, which led to the captain ordering an immediate evacuation and reporting the event to the Starlight Beacon space station.
During the High Republic Era, there existed a Dug who was employed by a captain aboard the Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha. This satellite, belonging to the Galactic Republic, was positioned within the Trymant system of the Outer Rim Territories. Their responsibilities included monitoring specific areas of the system such as sector 17, sector 18, and sector 19 through their designated workstation.

In the year 232 BBY, the [Great Hyperspace Disaster](/article/great_hyperspace_disaster] triggered a series of Emergences. These Emergences involved pieces of hyperspace debris originating from the destroyed Legacy Run freighter, which began to materialize in realspace and collide with celestial objects across the galaxy. On that particular day, the Dug was stationed at Republic Security Zone Monitoring Satellite 777B-Alpha, surrounded by numerous screens, panels, and radar systems. Feeling bored, they started talking to themselves while inspecting sectors within the Trymant system for any unusual activity, naming each sector and noting the absence of anything noteworthy.
Subsequently, the Dug detected Emergence debris moving towards the celestial bodies within the system and immediately alerted their captain to the situation. The captain then initiated a system-wide evacuation protocol and notified the Starlight Beacon space station. Following this, the Dug expressed their concern, suggesting they should prepare to abandon the monitoring station, as they watched the debris emerging from hyperspace in a state of shock. As a result of the incident, all of the moons of the planet Trymant IV were obliterated, and the planet itself was pulled closer to the system's second sun, causing all aboveground water to evaporate and transforming the landscape into a desert.
The Dug made their first appearance in the first issue of the 2021 comic series titled Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, which was launched as part of Phase I of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative. This particular issue was penned by Daniel José Older, brought to life by the illustrations of Harvey Tolibao, and released by IDW Publishing on February 3, 2021. Prior to the release, on November 17, 2020, StarWars.com published an article announcing the comic series which included a preview of uncolored pages from the debut issue, featuring the Dug.
