Biography

Mission to Dathomir

Grey Squadron arrives on Dathomir.

During the Galactic Civil War between the New Republic and the Galactic Empire, a pilot named Watkins was active. Watkins was a member of Grey Squadron, which was a military unit of the New Republic, commanded by the Jedi Knight X2. Sometime between the years of 11 ABY and 19 ABY, Squadron Grey began a mission to the planet of Dathomir. Watkins and his fellow pilots were acting on intelligence suggesting that X2's brother, the Imperial warlord X1, was present on the planet.

Using X-wing starfighters, Watkins and the rest of Grey Squadron landed on Dathomir, choosing a landing site within the planet's swamps to avoid being detected. The squadron soon came across an Imperial base that had previously been used by X1. The base was now largely deserted and was being taken over by the Nightsister clan of the local Dathomiri Witches, who were fighting the few Imperials who remained on the planet. While Watkins and the majority of the squadron stayed with their ships at the landing zone, X2 and three other squadron members cleared the base of both the Nightsisters and X1's troops. X2, along with Grey Squadron member Shara, then entered the base to retrieve data from X1's personal computer.

Death

The aftermath of the attack that took Watkins' life

In the meantime, one of X1's Imperials managed to sneak into the squadron's landing site without being seen. He then planted detonation packs on the squadron's X-wings. The resulting explosions from the sabotage caused significant losses for Grey Squadron. Watkins died in this attack, along with fellow pilots Tavoy and Ryder.

The surviving squadron members were able to capture the Imperial saboteur responsible for the attack by the time X2 and Shara returned. Overcome with grief at the loss of Watkins and his other squadron members, X2 briefly lost control and used the Force to choke the Imperial, before Shara calmed him down. The remaining members of Grey Squadron then destroyed an orbiting Imperial-class Star Destroyer and departed from the planet.
