Official summary

"Tasked with investigating the mysterious circumstances surrounding the deaths of several Jedi Knights, Anakin and Obi-Wan soon discover they are hunting Savage Opress, the monstrous apprentice created by Ventress and trained in the ways of the Sith by Dooku.

Dooku dispatches Opress to Toydaria with orders to abduct King Katuunko. The monstrous apprentice engages the Jedi in combat, resulting in the king's death during the conflict. Having failed his Master, Opress returns to Dooku's flagship. Ventress then launches her attack, with Opress by her side, against Dooku. The ensuing three-way battle for dark side supremacy concludes with Dooku's victory, Ventress's escape, and a disillusioned Savage abandoning his allegiance to the Sith. He seeks out Mother Talzin, who provides him with a new mission: to search the Outer Rim for his long-lost brother."

Plot summary

Delta Squad makes their way back to the Jedi Temple situated on Coruscant, bearing the bodies of Master Halsey and his Padawan, Knox, following the Devaron massacre on Devaron. They deliver their report to the Jedi. Obi-Wan Kenobi and the others immediately suspect the involvement of another assassin serving Count Dooku, but the sheer brutality of the killings leaves them perplexed. Recovered surveillance footage from Devaron ultimately reveals the face of the killer. Obi-Wan, shocked to realize this savage warrior shares ancestry with his deceased adversary Darth Maul, is dispatched to Dathomir by Masters Yoda and Windu to determine the killer's origins.

Obi-Wan and Anakin journey to the village where Savage Opress was raised. Obi-Wan's hopes for a peaceful resolution are shattered when a group of armed Dathomiri surround them, compelling them to engage in "aggressive (but nonlethal) negotiations" until Anakin seizes the village headman, Brother Viscus, as a hostage. Viscus directs them to Mother Talzin of the Nightsisters, and the Jedi depart for the witches' lair under a tense but nonviolent atmosphere. Upon arrival, they are brought before Mother Talzin, who, after some delay, reveals the name of their target and his whereabouts. With time running out, Talzin assigns Ventress to join her servant and immediately strike at Dooku before their deception is uncovered, despite Opress's lack of readiness.

In the meantime, Count Dooku has commenced Opress's training in the ways of the Sith. Dooku proves to be a demanding instructor as he endeavors to ignite Opress's rage and hatred to unlock the power of the dark side within him, subjecting his disciple to torture and torment with belittling criticism and Force lightning. Following the completion of the initial training, Dooku sends Opress on yet another mission, this time to Toydaria: he is tasked with capturing King Katuunko and delivering him alive to Dooku.

Opress invades the royal palace, cuts through the Toydarian Guard, and subdues the king by rendering him unconscious. Anakin and Obi-Wan, having just arrived, attempt to intervene, but Opress restrains them, destroys their ship, and flees with Katuunko to the Count's Separatist frigate. However, in his attempt to prevent Katuunko's escape, Opress inadvertently kills him via Force choking, which infuriates Dooku, who angrily strikes Opress with Force lightning. Opress pleads with Dooku for forgiveness, to which Dooku responds that forgiveness is not the path of the dark side. At that moment, Ventress enters Dooku's cabin, asserting that he had no right to mistreat Savage so harshly. After reasserting her control over Opress, they launch a coordinated attack on the Count. However, during the battle, Opress is repeatedly struck and weakened by Dooku's Force lightning, and as both Ventress and Dooku criticize him for his "weakness," Opress snaps and turns against them both by choking them. Dooku escapes through an emergency hatch, with Ventress in pursuit, leaving Opress to confront the two Jedi, who have followed him aboard a Toydarian ship.

Weakened and outmatched, Ventress ultimately retreats in an escape pod, and Dooku deploys his battle droids to eliminate Opress. The Jedi and Opress flee Dooku's ship. Wounded and disheartened, Opress returns to Mother Talzin, who instructs him to locate his long-exiled brother in the Outer Rim for training. Vowing to return even more powerful, Opress departs for the Outer Rim.

Continuity

The duel between Dooku and Opress culminates with Dooku standing over his apprentice, positioning the two lightsabers at Opress's throat in a scissor-like manner. Dooku meets his end in an identical fashion in Revenge of the Sith.

The training session where Dooku instructs Opress in the Force concludes in failure, with Savage uttering, "What you ask is impossible." This line echoes Luke Skywalker's words when he fails to levitate his swamp-submerged X-wing using the Force during his apprenticeship under Jedi Master Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back.
