The Zeltrons were a species of sentient humanoids whose skin tone presented itself in various shades of red. When a Zeltron became enraged, the color of their skin would intensify to a deeper shade of red. During the High Republic Era, Ric Farazi worked as a Zeltron journalist. During the final decades of the Galactic Republic, a Zeltron boy was a youngling within the Jedi Order, often sparring with Caleb Dume, a human youngling. A female Zeltron named Lorica Demaris became a member of the Resistance. It was believed that Zeltrons emitted pheromones that induced affection and had a soothing impact. Despite Demaris's uncertainty about the truth of this belief, she successfully calmed an agitated Gigoran by stroking her. Regardless, because of their special attributes, Zeltrons felt heightened emotions from those nearby, particularly those they held dear. Young Zeltrons were taught on their first day of school to avoid being controlled by their feelings.
Mary Jo Duffy, Kerry Gammill, and Tom Palmer initially conceived of Zeltrons for the Star Wars Legends comic book Star Wars (1977) 70 in 1983. They were established as canon in 2015 when John Jackson Miller, the author, revealed that an unnamed Jedi youngling in his novel A New Dawn was, in fact, a Zeltron, through production notes that Miller shared on his blog.
