Zonama Sekot

The Chiss designated M-Eighteen to what the Ferroan people called Zonama Sekot (translated as "World of Body and Mind"). This planet was a unique, living world that wandered through the Unknown Regions. The planet itself was known as Zonama, while the living organism inhabiting it was called Sekot. Following the conclusion of their war of conquest targeting the galaxy, it became the adopted homeworld for the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong.

Zonama Sekot originated from a seed of Yuuzhan'tar, the original, sentient, and living homeworld of the Yuuzhan Vong. Yuuzhan'tar was destroyed during the eons of conflict within a distant galaxy. Zonama Sekot was once located in the Tingel Arm of the Outer Rim Territories before it vanished into the Unknown Regions.

Description

Zonama Sekot stood apart from other worlds. A pearl-white region marked its north pole, surrounded by a hemisphere dominated by tropical jungles. The southern hemisphere was shrouded in dense, silvery clouds. Several rivers, lakes, and small seas dotted the equator. The edge of the southern hemisphere featured swirling wisps of wind that often broke away to form rotating storms.

History

The Yuuzhan Vong homeworld, Yuuzhan'tar, which was destroyed during the Cremlevian War, was the origin of Zonama Sekot.

The first inhabitants of Zonama Sekot were the black-haired, humanoid Ferroan colonists and the red-skinned Langhesi colonists, with Magisters governing the living world. The Ferroans adhered to the Potentium perspective on the Force. The Langhesi and Ferroans established settlements on the planet in 89 BBY.

The Jedi Vergere surrenders to the Yuuzhan Vong on Zonama Sekot's surface.

During the time of the Galactic Republic, rumors circulated that Zonama Sekot was the origin of the fastest ships in the galaxy. Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, journeyed there in search of fellow Jedi Vergere and to acquire one of the planet's living ships. Anakin formed a bond with a record number of twelve seed-partners, and Obi-Wan connected with three more. During the attack by the Yuuzhan Vong (32 BBY30 BBY), Zonama Sekot successfully defended itself. Later, Wilhuff Tarkin, then a Republic political leader and security force commander, declared war against the living world and attacked it in 29 BBY. Zonama Sekot revealed its [hyperdrive](/article/hyperdrive-legends] system, constructed by the Langhesi, and fled into the Unknown Regions.

In subsequent years, tales of the "rogue planet" that once produced living ships spread throughout the Outer Rim.

Many years later, during the Yuuzhan Vong War, Luke Skywalker, Mara Jade Skywalker, Jacen Solo, R2-D2, and several other Jedi journeyed to Zonama Sekot, seeking the long-lost secrets of the galaxy's invaders. Recognizing a hint of Anakin Skywalker in Luke and Jacen, Sekot permitted them to land and put them to the test. Sekot offered to completely obliterate the Yuuzhan Vong, but both Luke and Jacen declined. Nevertheless, Sekot chose to assist them in another way. Subsequently, Nom Anor, disguised as Yu'shaa, the leader of the underground Jeedai heretics, unsuccessfully attempted to destroy the living world.

Zonama Sekot traveled to Yuuzhan Vong-controlled Coruscant, which had been renamed Yuuzhan'tar, and brokered a peace agreement between the Yuuzhan Vong and the Galactic Alliance. Converted and surrendering Yuuzhan Vong began to call Zonama home, establishing several communities. One such village was La'okio, created as an experiment to dismantle the barriers dividing the Yuuzhan Vong castes by organizing beings into mixed groups.

Reh'mwa, a leader of the Bothan ar'krai against the Yuuzhan Vong, supplied the Avengeance for its search for Zonama Sekot in the Unknown Regions. After the war's conclusion, Luke Skywalker convened a meeting on the planet to articulate the Jedi's role in the post-war galaxy.

At the onset of the Sith–Imperial War, it retreated further into the Unknown Regions, abandoning the Yuuzhan Vong who remained in the galaxy as part of the Ossus Project. As of 130 ABY, it was situated in the Unknown Regions, approximately halfway between Lwhekk and Lehon.

Behind the scenes

In the original outline for The New Jedi Order: Force Heretic III: Reunion, Zonama Sekot was intended to have a young, sentient moon named "Zonama X," which would have persuaded its parent world to join the war against the Yuuzhan Vong.
