Cell 2188 was a holding cell at a work camp ran by Commodore Visler Korda's Imperial faction on the planet Rekkana. Between 4 ABY and 5 ABY, human smuggler Lando Calrissian tracked a distress signal to the work camp, where he snuck inside the camp and opened the cell door, surprised to find the Lepi smuggler Jaxxon inside. Jaxxon, who was lying down on the bed of the cell, got captured by the Galactic Empire after he was hired to free the Rekk Chancellor Asera. After informing Calrissian that Asera was in the next cell, the Lepi stole Calrissian's X-8 Night Sniper to blast a hole in the cell wall, allowing for the two smugglers to push through the hole and into Asera's cell.
Later on, Korda's presentation of the new automated TIE fighter series starfighters, the Auto-fighter was interrupted when the Auto-fighters opened fire on the work camp. The fighters, which the Rekk had gained control of, destroyed the camp and Cell 2188 along with it.
