Giving its name to the system, it and the other planets offered no uncommonly found resources with less effort to obtain. Vassek was orbited by three moons, one of which, Vassek 3, was home to Separatist Alliance General Grievous's personal fortress. In 21 BBY, during the Clone Wars, a Galactic Republic task force traveled to Vassek 3 in search of the escaped Viceroy Nute Gunray, leading to a confrontation with Grievous, after which made Vassek less obscure.
Vassek first appeared in the new Star Wars canon in "Lair of Grievous," the tenth episode of the first season of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, which aired on December 12, 2008. The planet was identified in the corresponding episode guide on StarWars.com. Vassek originally appeared in the Star Wars Legends continuity in "The Clone Wars: The Dreams of General Grievous," a webcomic in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars webcomic series authored by Pablo Hidalgo and published on December 10, 2008.
The depiction of Vassek in "Lair of Grievous" utilized a recolored version of artwork used to depict several unidentified celestial bodies in Fierce Twilight, a September 3, 2008 Star Wars Legends web browser game published on the official Cartoon Network website. The artwork from Fierce Twilight was also used to illustrate the planet Rodia beginning with "Bombad Jedi," the eighth episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars first season that first aired on November 21, 2008, as well as the planet Teth—in 2010 in Legends and from 2017 onward in the new canon. In addition, a version of that same image sharing its color palette with the depiction of Vassek was used to illustrate the cover of "Republic and Separatist Ships (1)," a November 2, 2021 booklet of De Agostini's Star Wars Encyclopedia series. However, this articles refrains from assuming that the illustration depicts Vassek.
