Alayus Bolandin

Alayus Bolandin was a male human who held the position of lieutenant within the 224th Imperial Armored Division of the Galactic Empire during the Mimban Campaign. After Major Staz met his death, General Falk gave Bolandin a battlefield promotion to the military rank of captain. Being a seasoned soldier, he considered Corporal Han Solo to be a source of trouble, and upon Solo's capture as a supposed deserter, Bolandin commanded that he be given as food to "the beast."

Biography

Alayus Bolandin was a male human who functioned as an Imperial officer in both the 224th Imperial Armored Division of the Imperial Army and the Imperial Officer Corps. By the year 10 BBY, he was a battle-hardened veteran with the lieutenant rank, stationed on the planet of Mimban. Here, the Galactic Empire was fighting the native Mimbanese for the purpose of mining the planet's rich deposits of heavy minerals. Following the death of Major Staz in combat, Bolandin assumed command of the 224th at Camp Forward.

Bolandin gathered the forces at the camp, announcing their departure to the Southern Marshlands in three hours and his desire to dispatch a ten-man advance party. Corporal Han Solo responded to this announcement with a sarcastic remark about going to a place with even more mud, which drew Bolandin's attention. The lieutenant requested that Solo repeat his statement, but instead, the corporal questioned their objectives. Bolandin outlined what he perceived as the Empire's goals on Mimban. After another sarcastic comment from Solo, Bolandin approached the corporal in a threatening manner, asking if there was a problem. Solo backed down, replying in the negative, after which Bolandin dismissed the group.

Later, Bolandin was engaged in conversation with a group of other officers and two TIE pilots near the Camp Forward airfield when he was summoned by Tobias Beckett, a criminal disguised as an Imperial captain. Beckett informed the lieutenant that he and his associates had apprehended a deserter and presented Solo, who had been attempting to blackmail his way into Beckett's gang. Bolandin accepted this fabrication and instructed his men to feed Solo to "the beast," a name given to Chewbacca, a Wookiee prisoner held at Camp Forward. Subsequently, General Falk promoted Bolandin to the rank of captain in the field before he was redeployed to the Southern Marshlands.

Personality and traits

Alayus Bolandin was completely devoted to the Galactic Empire, and he thought that the goals of the Imperial troops on Mimban were to bring peace and prosperity to the galaxy and to change the government on the planet to one that was loyal to the Galactic Emperor by getting rid of the enemy. Bolandin had long considered Solo to be a troublemaker with a loud mouth and believed that his men already had enough to handle, so he quickly accepted Beckett's false claim that Solo was a deserter. Bolandin was 1.88 meters in height, with fair skin, brown hair, and blue eyes.

Equipment

While on Mimban, Bolandin wore a gray Imperial kepi featuring an officer's disk, along with a gray greatcoat that had a brown fur collar and displayed his rank insignia plaque, which showed two red pips and one blue. Beneath the coat, he wore an armor breastplate that also had the plaque and a brown neck guard. He also wore a brown belt with four attached pouches, black boots, and black gloves.

Behind the scenes

Hal Fowler played Alayus Bolandin in the 2018 Anthology Series film, Solo: A Star Wars Story, but he was only credited as "Mimban Lieutenant." The character's identity was first revealed in the companion reference book, Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide, penned by Pablo Hidalgo, which provided the surname Bolandin. The 2021 reference book titled Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy then confirmed his first name as Alayus.
