Attack on Jabiim

The Jabiim incident, also known as the attack on Jabiim, was a military operation executed by the Galactic Empire targeting the Hidden Path's sanctuary situated on the planet of Jabiim. Overseeing the offensive from orbit was Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader, operating from his Imperial I-class Star Destroyer, the Devastator. The ground forces, however, were under the command of the recently appointed Grand Inquisitor, the Third Sister. Her true intention was to betray Vader as retribution for the massacre of her Jedi Initiates cohort during the siege of the Jedi Temple years prior. However, the Sith Lord was already anticipating her act of treachery. The real Grand Inquisitor was with Vader, awaiting the opportune moment to reveal himself to the Third Sister.

This military action was part of the Empire's wider hunt for the Path, and also the hunt for the fugitive Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Through the selflessness of several Path members, notably Tala Durith, a newfound ally of Kenobi, both Kenobi and the remaining Path members managed to escape after Vader's landing. The Third Sister then attempted to take her shot at Vader, only to be swiftly defeated, critically wounded, and left for dead by both Vader and the Grand Inquisitor. Subsequently, Vader directed the Devastator to pursue the Path's departing vessel, prioritizing the capture of Kenobi above all else, neglecting the broader rebel contingent.

The attack

Imperial assault

Stormtroopers charge into the Path base.

The ground assault—spearheaded by the Third Sister, whose promotion to Grand Inquisitor was orchestrated by Sith Lord Darth Vader—was initiated following the placement of a tracking device on L0-LA59, the toy droid belonging to Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan. The primary objective was the capture of Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, with the secondary goal of capturing or eliminating every member of the Path present. While the Third Sister led the ground attack involving multiple stormtrooper squads, Vader maintained his position on the Devastator in orbit.

During the attack, L0-LA59, under the control of the Galactic Empire through a restraining bolt, trapped the Path within the base. As they fortified their position and prepared for evacuation, Kenobi attempted to buy time by first trying to persuade the Third Sister to join him in defeating Vader, and then by surrendering himself. Later, Kenobi managed to escape and board a JT-731 Broadhorn transport alongside the other Path members, while Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader used the Force to pull another transport.

Duel with Reva

The Third Sister proved no match for Darth Vader.

Subsequently, the Third Sister's assassination attempt on Vader resulted in her defeat in a lightsaber duel, leaving her critically wounded and causing her to lose her title to the Grand Inquisitor. As the revived Grand Inquisitor and several stormtroopers arrived, Vader declared that the Third Sister was of no further use to him. The Grand Inquisitor then spoke to the Third Sister, suggesting that revenge could be a powerful motivator for survival.

After the departure of Vader, the Grand Inquisitor, and the remaining troopers, she discovered Kenobi's holoprojector and intercepted a message from Viceroy Bail Prestor Organa, revealing the existence of Vader's son on Tatooine and daughter on Alderaan, both being hidden by Organa.

Aftermath

The Devastator pursues Kenobi in his escape craft.

Aboard Roken's ship, Kenobi and Leia found themselves among the refugees. Roken informed them that the ship's hyperdrive was malfunctioning and that the Empire was still in pursuit. Kenobi noticed that his holoprojector was missing but reassured Roken that everything was fine. The Devastator relentlessly pursued the ship, firing upon it until Kenobi, realizing that Vader's priority was his capture rather than the Path's, departed from the freighter in an escape craft, landing on a barren moon where Vader followed. Subsequent to the attack on the Path's Jabiim safe house and a later raid on The Archive, a Path base located on the moon of Jedha, Jedi Knight Cal Kestis and Nightsister Merrin began preparations to establish the hidden planet Tanalorr as a new sanctuary for the Path.
