During the events of the Great Jedi Purge, the forces of the Galactic Empire executed a swift and brutal attack against the archive established by Jedi Master Cere Junda on Jedha, a desolate desert moon. This archive served as a crucial hub within the Hidden Path network. The Empire's discovery of the Archive was facilitated by the treachery of Bode Akuna, a former ally within Junda and Jedi Knight Cal Kestis's team. Akuna, who had previously aided in retrieving the compass, revealed himself to be a Jedi survivor secretly working for the Empire. As Kestis gave chase to Akuna while Imperial forces converged, Junda made the ultimate sacrifice, holding off the onslaught and engaging Sith Lord Darth Vader in combat. This act of bravery ensured the security of the Path's contact codes and allowed many of the Narkis Anchorites present to escape.
On the planet Koboh, Jedi Knight Cal Kestis, alongside gunslinger Bode Akuna, engaged in combat against Dagan Gera, a fallen Jedi from the High Republic Era, and his Bedlam Raiders. Their objective was to recover an Abyss compass. Subsequently, Kestis transported the compass back to The Archive located on the moon of Jedha. There, Jedi Master Eno Cordova, who collaborated with Master Cere Junda and the Hidden Path network to smuggle Force-sensitives, dedicated himself to repairing the device. The hope was that it would enable the Path to relocate to the hidden planet of Tanalorr, situated within the perilous Koboh Abyss.
Concurrently, the reunited crew of the starship Stinger Mantis, including Junda, Kestis, Akuna, the Nightsister Merrin, and the pilot Greez Dritus, celebrated and discussed their future plans. Junda agreed to accompany Kestis and the Path to Tanalorr, bringing the Archive with them. Akuna privately suggested to Kestis that a smaller group should scout Tanalorr in advance, but Kestis disagreed. Weary and concerned for his daughter Kata, Akuna retired early, leaving Kestis and Merrin to share a romantic moment on the balcony.
By the following morning, Cordova had successfully completed the repairs on the compass. However, at that precise moment, disaster struck. The Galactic Empire had located their position and was rapidly closing in from all directions. Amidst the ensuing chaos, a regretful Akuna seized the compass and aimed a blaster at Master Cordova. Despite Cordova's attempts to reason with him, Akuna fatally shot the Jedi Master twice in the abdomen before detonating a grenade towards Kestis and Junda. Junda employed the Force to deflect the blast and Akuna's subsequent blaster fire. Akuna then fled through the base, with Kestis in hot pursuit, after Junda reminded him that Akuna possessed the compass.
Now consumed by grief, Kestis pursued Akuna across the Jedha desert on a speeder in an attempt to recover the compass. After traversing the Jedha landscape and navigating through waves of Imperial troops heading for the Archive, Kestis succeeded in disabling Akuna's speeder. Cornered, Akuna implored Kestis to return to the Archive to safeguard his found family, warning of an impending threat. When Kestis instead attacked him, Akuna ignited the lightsaber he had taken from Gera and used the Force, revealing himself as a Jedi who had survived Order 66. Cal Kestis and Bode Akuna engaged in a fierce lightsaber duel, but Akuna gained the advantage by force pushing and shooting the Jedi off a cliff, injuring Kestis and allowing Akuna to escape with the compass, leaving his former friend for dead.
While Kestis pursued Akuna, Junda and Merrin collaborated to repel the Imperial assault and buy time for an evacuation. Eventually moving and fighting within the structure and then at the main gate, the two, along with many Narkis Anchorites who had lived and worked at the Archive held off many waves of Imperial forces forcing their way in through the main gate. After holding them off, Junda instructed Merrin to remain and protect the Stinger Mantis while she retrieved the Hidden Path contact codes, recognizing the catastrophic consequences if the Empire were to obtain them. Despite Merrin's initial objections, she ultimately agreed before Junda departed.

Rushing to the Archive, Junda found it engulfed in flames. She managed to retrieve the codes from a console before entrusting the Hidden Path contact codes to Kestis's droid, BD-1. However, Darth Vader appeared, seeking vengeance for his defeat at the Fortress Inquisitorius on Nur and determined to eradicate the Jedi completely. As Junda dispatched BD-1 with the Jedi codes, she confronted the cyborg Sith Lord in a brutal duel, displaying her skill and unwavering resolve. Junda nearly defeated him, but in the end, a wounded Vader delivered a fatal blow to the Jedi Master, causing her to collapse.

Kestis eventually located Junda and held her, experiencing her final moments through psychometry. As she passed away in his arms, she uttered Kestis's name and the name of her deceased Padawan, Trilla Suduri, before Kestis succumbed to his grief and wept. Kestis carried her and Cordova's bodies back to the Stinger Mantis, where both Dritus and Merrin mourned. As the remaining crew struggled to comprehend Akuna's betrayal and the sudden, devastating loss of their friends, they realized they could utilize Akuna's locator beacon to track him to his hideout. Discovering his location in the Nova Garon system, the crew resolved to pursue him.
