Devastation of Da Soocha

The cataclysmic event known as the Devastation of Da Soocha transpired during the Second Imperial Civil War, specifically in the year 137 ABY. It involved the First Sith Imperial Strikeforce of the Sith Empire deploying lethal toxins across the aquatic planet Da Soocha. Simultaneously, they bombarded the Hutt Temple of Maya Armus, located on the moon Napdu. Following this, the Imperial Skull Squadron systematically destroyed escaping starships, while stormtroopers ensured the elimination of all remaining individuals. Although Rulf Yage celebrated this as an Imperial triumph, the Sith's actions sparked considerable outrage from the Hutts, leading them to approach Cade Skywalker.

History

Background

In the aftermath of the Genocide on Dac, numerous Mon Calamari survivors sought refuge on the water-covered world of Da Soocha, situated within the isolated Cyax system. Azzim Anjiliac Atirue, a Hutt, operated a spa within the Hutt Temple of Maya Armus on Napdu, the fourth moon orbiting Da Soocha. As a response, the Sith Empire dispatched the First Sith Imperial Strikeforce, commanded by the two Sith lords Vul Isen and Darth Azard, with the mission to punish Azzim. Their strategy involved rendering Da Soocha uninhabitable by saturating its oceans with deadly toxins. These toxins had previously been used with great effect on Dac, resulting in the complete annihilation of all life, including billions of Mon Calamari and Quarren.

Confrontation

Upon their arrival in Da Soocha's orbit, the War Hammer initiated communication with Maya Armus. The Sith confronted Azzim, who attempted to promote his spa services and denied any claims of harboring Mon Calamari refugees. Foreseeing the impending destruction by the Sith, he instructed his Twi'lek secretary, Xanif, to transmit a recording of their meeting to his uncle, Vedo Anjiliac Atirue, located on the Hutt capital of Nal Hutta, and to escape at all costs. Aboard the War Hammer, Azard authorized the deployment of Sith–Imperial attack ships belonging to squadron [Quad Victor], tasked with releasing the deadly toxin into Da Soocha's oceans, thereby eradicating all life on the planet. These bombers swiftly completed their objective and returned to the War Hammer.

Azard also commanded the bombardment of Napdu and a subsequent deployment of stormtroopers to eliminate any potential survivors, an action that Moff Yage considered "overkill." Despite Yage's objections, Lord Azard overruled him and ordered the Star Destroyer's turbolaser batteries to obliterate Maya Armus, resulting in the deaths of most inhabitants, including Azzim, who could only reflect on his final moments. Several civilian freighters attempted to flee the Imperial assault, but Darth Rauder, aboard her Sith Fury, designated them as "enemy combatants" and instructed Skull Squadron to eliminate them. Despite protests from Tev Rimon and Jae Akura, who confirmed that the targets were unarmed, Captain Gunn Yage ordered the Skulls to execute Lady Rauder's commands.

On the ground, stormtroopers, led by Sergeant Harkas, were systematically eliminating the remaining survivors. One of his subordinates, Corporal Trask, voiced his disapproval of the ethical implications of their Sith masters' actions. However, Harkas justified their actions by stating that they were simply following orders and fatally shot a wounded survivor to reinforce his argument.

Aftermath

Stormtroopers on the surface.

With the complete eradication of all survivors on Napdu and the successful contamination of Da Soocha, Yage was commended for his actions and celebrated by Vul Isen as the "Conqueror of Da Soocha," adding to his reputation as the "Hero of Ossus." However, Yage was plagued by shame and guilt.

On the Hutt capital of Nal Hutta, Azzim's uncle, Vedo, received a recording documenting the events on Da Soocha. Consequently, he convened a meeting of the Hutt leadership on Nal Hutta to deliberate on joining the war alongside the Galactic Alliance Remnant and the Fel Empire as retaliation for the Sith's atrocities on Da Soocha. Cade Skywalker, a former Jedi, received a transmission from Queen [Jool], who requested his presence at this meeting. Cade, who was already pursuing Isen, agreed to assist the Hutts. This decision, coupled with Isen's prior genocide of the Mon Calamari, ultimately led to his downfall.
