Jae Akura

Jae Akura was a male Human, specifically a starfighter pilot serving the Empire of Darth Krayt, the Dark Lord of the Sith, during the time of the Second Imperial Civil War. He operated under the call sign "Storm" within Skull Squadron, a unit of Predator-class fighters led by Captain Gunn Yage. In the year 137 ABY, Skull Squadron found itself stationed on Coruscant, the galactic capital. It was during this time that Cade Skywalker, a former Jedi turned bounty hunter, made an attempt to extract the Bothan Jedi Knight Hosk Trey'lis from the Temple of the Sith. Akura, along with the other members of Skull Squadron, received orders to capture Skywalker alive and engaged the former Jedi's starship, known as the Mynock, in aerial combat above the planet. However, Skywalker was successful in evading his pursuers by disappearing into the depths of Coruscant's undercity.

Roughly one week later, Akura once again found himself in combat against the Mynock. This time, the ship was being piloted by a group of Skywalker's allies, including his mother, Moff Nyna Calixte, who was attempting to keep her identity secret through a disguise. Their mission was to rescue Skywalker from his captivity within the Sith Temple. Just as the Skulls were gaining the upper hand against the Mynock, they received orders from Moff Rulf Yage, Captain Yage's father, to cease their attack. Akura expressed his disappointment with these orders, as he desired to capture a Skywalker. Following the supposed death of Emperor Darth Krayt, Akura and Skull Squadron were assigned to the Pellaeon-class Star Destroyer War Hammer as part of a mission aimed at capturing Emperor-in-exile Roan Fel during his planned meet with members of the Jedi Order on Agamar to discuss the possibility of an alliance against the Sith. Despite their efforts, the operation failed, and Fel managed to escape the ambush. Later, after the Sith Empire's deliberate poisoning of Dac, the homeworld of the Mon Calamari, as part of Darth Krayt's plan to eliminate the Mon Calamari species for their support of the Galactic Alliance Remnant, Akura and Skull Squadron were involved in a mission to poison the planet Da Soocha as retribution for providing refuge to Mon Calamari refugees. During this operation, Skull Squadron was tasked with intercepting any vessels attempting to flee the moon, and under the orders of Darth Rauder, they proceeded to destroy unarmed civilian ships.

Following Darth Krayt's return, Akura and the Skulls took part in the Sith Empire's attack on the Hidden Temple belonging to the Jedi Order. During the conflict, Captain Yage took the life of Darth Rauder after the Sith Lord commanded the Skulls to murder vulnerable younglings. As a result, Yage declared her allegiance to Emperor Roan Fel, and the other members of Skull Squadron followed suit.

Biography

The Pursuit of Skywalker

Akura and the other members of Skull Squadron in their hangar

Jae "Storm" Akura, a pilot who was a male Human, served the Empire of Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Krayt seven years following the Sith Lord's overthrow of Galactic Emperor Roan Fel at the conclusion of the Empire's war against the Galactic Alliance. Akura, serving during the Second Imperial Civil War, was a member of Skull Squadron, a unit of Predator-class fighters, under the leadership of Captain Gunn Yage.

In 137 ABY, Akura and Skull Squadron were stationed on Coruscant, the galactic capital, when Cade Skywalker, a former Jedi turned bounty hunter, journeyed to the planet to rescue Hosk Trey'lis, the Bothan Jedi Knight, whom Skywalker had previously handed over to the Sith in exchange for the bounty placed on Jedi. Under strict orders to capture Skywalker alive, Akura and the Skulls pursued Skywalker's starship, the Helot-class transport called the Mynock, through Coruscant's skies. Skywalker managed to outmaneuver the Skulls, causing them to lose sight of the starship within Coruscant's undercity. Yage, displeased with the Skulls' performance, ordered the squadron to spread out and search the area for the Mynock.

After failing to locate the Mynock, Akura, along with the other pilots, returned to his squadron's hangar located within the new Imperial Palace. While Yage reprimanded the Skulls for their performance, Moff Rulf Yage, the Captain's father, approached the group and declared that the loss of the Mynock was unacceptable. Defending her pilots, Captain Yage pointed out that the ship's identification had not been confirmed and that the situation was unavoidable due to the Moff's order to bring Skywalker in alive. This prompted Moff Yage to scold his daughter for making excuses before dismissing the squadron. Akura was surprised that the Captain had survived her childhood, but she defended her father, noting that he had desired a son.

About a week later, Akura and Skull Squadron were given another opportunity to capture the Mynock, which was now piloted by some of Skywalker's allies who were planning to rescue the former Jedi from the Sith Temple, where he was being held captive. Skywalker's allies, along with the former Jedi's mother, Imperial Moff Nyna Calixte—disguised as her alter ego, Morrigan Corde, to conceal her true identity—detonated explosive devices around the Temple. Skull Squadron was flying in the area in response to the explosions when Akura spotted the Mynock. The squadron soon engaged the transport, inflicting damage upon the vessel. However, just as the Skulls had the Mynock in their sights, an order came from Moff Yage commanding Skull Squadron to abort their mission. This order had been orchestrated by Calixte to allow her to rescue her son. The Skulls were displeased with the directives, and Akura commented that he would have liked to capture a Skywalker. Nevertheless, the squadron obeyed the Moff's command and disengaged from the Mynock.

Operation: Thunderstroke

Later that year, following the apparent death of Darth Krayt at the hands of his personal advisor, Darth Wyyrlok, Akura and the Skulls were stationed aboard the Pellaeon-class Star Destroyer War Hammer as part of Operation: Thunderstroke, a mission ordered by the newly appointed Regent of the Empire, Grand Admiral Morlish Veed. The mission's objective was to capture Emperor-in-exile Roan Fel while he attempted to meet with members of the Jedi Order to discuss a possible alliance against the Sith. Akura expressed his dissatisfaction with the Imperial fleet being predominantly composed of Sith, confiding in fellow pilot Brodie Coburn that he harbored distrust towards the Sith.

Akura and the Skulls were placed under the command of the Sith Lady Darth Rauder, who replaced their Predator-class starfighters with the Sith Empire's latest-designed fighter. The Sith-Imperial fleet arrived above the planet Agamar, the designated location for Fel's rendezvous with the Jedi. The Skulls, along with the rest of the strikeforce, engaged Fel's Star Destroyer, the Dauntless, and its starfighters. Despite the significant losses suffered by Fel's forces, the operation ultimately failed, as Fel managed to escape in his shuttle.

Napdu

Following the Sith Empire's poisoning of Dac, the homeworld of the Mon Calamari, as part of Darth Krayt's directive to eradicate the Mon Calamari species due to their support of the Galactic Alliance Remnant, Akura and the Skulls accompanied the First Sith Imperial Strikeforce, under Moff Yage's command, to Napdu, the fourth moon of Da Soocha. The Sith suspected that Azzim Anjiliac Atirue, the Hutt crime lord residing on the moon, was providing sanctuary to Mon Calamari refugees.

Darth Azard, the Sith Lord overseeing the mission to Da Soocha, instructed Yage to deploy the strike force's bombers to release the same toxin that had poisoned Dac upon Da Soocha before initiating the bombardment of Napdu. While the fleet assaulted the moon, Skull Squadron was deployed to intercept any craft attempting to escape. Darth Rauder, the squadron's Sith commander, ordered the Skulls to destroy certain vessels attempting to leave the moon. Tev Rimon, Skull Three, reported that the vessels were civilian non-combatants, and Akura confirmed that the ships were unarmed. However, Rauder remained unyielding, and the Skulls proceeded to destroy the civilian vessels. After the bombardment was completed and stormtroopers had ensured there were no survivors on the planet, the Sith ordered the recall of their forces, deeming the mission a resounding success.

Attack on the Hidden Temple

After Darth Krayt reassumed control of the Sith Empire, Akura and the Skulls participated in the Empire's attack on the Hidden Temple of the Jedi Order located on the planet Taivas. During the battle, Akura and Coburn found themselves in a position where they needed to withdraw, but Darth Rauder refused to allow them to do so and ordered them to remain in position. Rauder commanded Skull Squadron to destroy a ship filled with Jedi younglings. Unable to bring themselves to kill defenseless children, Captain Yage instead fired upon Darth Rauder, killing the Sith Lord. Refusing to continue serving under the Sith, Yage declared her defection to Emperor Roan Fel, and the other Skulls followed her. Outmatched, the combined forces of the Jedi, Alliance Remnant, and Empire-in-exile were compelled to retreat from the battle and regroup at Bastion.
