In the year 9 ABY, on the planet of Lothal, a confrontation occurred: Sabine Wren, the New Republic Commander, Mandalorian, and former Padawan of Ahsoka Tano, engaged in a lightsaber battle with the Force-sensitive mercenary Shin Hati. Hati's goal was to secure a map leading to the location of Grand Admiral Thrawn for her employer, Morgan Elsbeth. Ultimately, Hati was successful in her mission, escaping with the map after inflicting a lightsaber wound to Wren's abdomen with her lightsaber.
Following her mission on Arcana, Ahsoka Tano discovered a Dathomir compass containing a map revealing the whereabouts of Grand Admiral Thrawn. Eager to locate both the admiral and Ezra Bridger, Ahsoka sought the assistance of her former apprentice, the Mandalorian Sabine Wren, hoping she could decipher the artistic elements on the compass aboard her T-6 shuttle.

Wren departed Tano's vessel and transported the compass back to the LothalNet comm tower, where she managed to unlock it later that evening. Shortly after accessing the map, Sabine faced an assault at the tower by a pair of HK-87 assassin droids. One droid restrained her, while the other absconded with the map, simultaneously destroying much of her equipment within the tower. Sabine managed to free herself by destroying the restraining droid with its own blasters. As she attempted to pursue the droid carrying the map, Wren contacted Huyang for assistance and then grabbed her lightsaber.

Racing down the stairs, Sabine discovered that the HK droid was accompanied by Shin Hati, a Force-sensitive Mercenary. After Wren activated her former lightsaber, Shin followed suit, igniting her own after returning the map to the droid. Sabine charged at Hati, initiating a lightsaber duel. The Mandalorian attempted to strike first, but Shin deflected the attack with her blade, sending Sabine staggering backward. Hati pressed her advantage, attacking Sabine repeatedly, forcing the Mandalorian to defend and retreat with each clash of their sabers. As the fight unfolded, Ahsoka Tano and Huyang were en route to the tower.

Sabine and Shin engaged in several saber locks before the mercenary gradually attempted to force Sabine to the ground. Although Wren broke free, she was swiftly struck again by Hati. The impact of the clash propelled her to the ground, but she quickly regained her footing. Just as Sabine began to find her rhythm and push back against Shin, the mercenary managed to impale Wren through the torso just as Ahsoka and Huyang arrived. Sabine, kneeling, swung her lightsaber before losing consciousness. Hati and the HK droid fled, while Ahsoka rushed to Wren's aid.
Sabine was promptly transported to a medical facility on Capital City, where her injuries were successfully treated, and she regained consciousness shortly after. Concurrently, having successfully obtained the map, Hati and her master Baylan journeyed to the planet Seatos alongside the rest of Morgan Elsbeth's forces. Morgan positioned the compass within a mapping device on the planet, granting the mercenaries access to view the map.
The lightsaber battle between Sabine Wren and Shin Hati on Lothal was initially depicted in "Part One: Master and Apprentice," the inaugural episode of the 2023 television series Ahsoka. The episode, along with "Part Two: Toil and Trouble," premiered on August 22, 2023.
