Communication tower E-272 of the LothalNet, also known by the names Ezra's Roost and Lothal Transmitter Tower, was a defunct communications tower belonging to LothalNet. It was situated in the plains just outside of Lothal's primary settlement, the Capital City. Approximately five years prior to the Battle of Yavin, the young orphaned boy named Ezra Bridger utilized it as a secret place to live and hide.
Situated on the planet of Lothal, LothalNet communication tower E-272 was specifically located within Grid Q6 of the Western Zone, in the grasslands surrounding Lothal City. The tower, once operated by LothalNet, was eventually deserted. The human Ezra Bridger then used it as a clandestine residence, leading to its nickname of Ezra's Roost. A turbolift provided access to the tower's summit. At the top, a circular balcony offered a panoramic view, and inside were multiple empty rooms, one of which contained Bridger's sleeping quarters. Notably, the tower served as storage for his collection of pilfered Imperial helmets. He also kept a key to his old family home there, which he later recovered on Empire Day in 4 BBY.
While living as an orphan on Lothal, Bridger made use of the tower as a secret refuge until his recruitment into the rebel group known as the Spectres. Two years following Bridger's abandonment of the tower, Alexsandr Kallus, a renegade Imperial Security Bureau agent, employed it to establish clandestine contact with the Rebels, using the alias Fulcrum. After discovering that Grand Admiral Thrawn had knowledge of the planned rebel assault on Lothal, Kallus attempted to use a transmitter to issue a warning to the Phoenix Cell. However, Thrawn disrupted the signals and apprehended Kallus after a confrontation. By analyzing the transmission paths of Kallus' Fulcrum communications and General Jan Dodonna's Massassi Group, Thrawn successfully located the hidden rebel base situated within the Atollon system.
Around 1 BBY, when the Spectres returned to Lothal, Kanan Jarrus, Hera Syndulla, and Chopper executed a long-range observation of Lothal City from the tower's vantage point. They observed preparations at the Imperial Armory Complex that pointed to the Empire's intentions to mass-produce the recently developed TIE/D Defender Elite. Following Syndulla's capture by the Empire, the tower's advantageous view of the capital city was utilized for reconnaissance in preparation for her rescue.
Subsequent to the liberation of Lothal, the tower underwent restoration, and Sabine Wren took up residence there, overseeing Lothal as a promise to her missing friend, Bridger. Approximately 9 ABY, Wren viewed an old recording from Bridger on her imagecaster, wherein Bridger reminded Wren of her responsibilities. Subsequently, Wren observed Ahsoka Tano's shuttle and her X-wing escort as they approached Lothal City from the tower's balcony. Shortly thereafter, the Force-sensitive human Shin Hati and a number of HK-87 assassin droids launched an assault on the tower, dueling and wounding Sabine before absconding with the Arcana Star Map that Morgan Elsbeth sought.
