Felinx

A felinx represented a type of animal suitable for domestication as a pet. Yrica Quell, a resident of the Gavana Orbital space station, along with her family, once possessed one of these creatures; however, Quell's parents were ultimately compelled to euthanize it due to illness. Everi Chalis, during her tenure as governor of the planet Haidoral Prime, determined that felinx populations were becoming feral and subsequently ordered the extermination of many. The governor later defected to the Rebel Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry, where Corbo, a recruit within the 61st, attempted to confront her with a galley knife as his own felinx had been killed under her directives.

The Felinx Throughout the Galaxy

Era of the High Republic

On Palagosal, Zenny Greylark accused Churo of hiding like a cowardly felinx.

In the year 231 BBY, Lina Soh, serving as the Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, organized a tour of Lonisa City, the designated capital on the planet Valo, for a group of Republic delegates and Jedi, with Coordinator Samera Ra-oon leading the way. The sound emitted by the hoverbuggies used during the tour reminded Jedi Master Stellan Gios of the gentle sound of a felinx purring.

In 228 BBY, a combined force of Republic Defense Coalition and Jedi Order members responded to a distress signal originating from the planet Palagosal. Upon discovering that the signal was sent by Churo, a Hutt who had overridden another distress call to promote his own, Zenny Greylark, a human, accused him of behaving like a cowardly felinx by hiding instead of assisting others in need.

Times of the Empire

The family of Yrica Quell (pictured) owned a female felinx, though they eventually put it down.

During the Imperial Era, the species of felinx were often kept as domesticated companions. Yrica Quell, an inhabitant of the Gavana Orbital space station, and her family once owned a female specimen, which later fell ill. Believing the animal was suffering, Quell's parents decided to have the felinx euthanized, an event Quell chose not to witness. While serving as governor of Haidoral Prime, Everi Chalis formed the opinion that the felinx population in the planet's capital city, Haidoral Administrative Center One, was becoming feral and detracting from the city's appearance. As a result, she issued an order for their culling, leading to the death of a felinx owned by the civilian Corbo.

In 3 ABY, following the Rebel Alliance's 61st Mobile Infantry attack on Haidoral Prime, Corbo enlisted in the company. Chalis also defected to the 61st, fearing potential repercussions from the Empire for the attack. While the governor was detained in a makeshift brig aboard the company's CR90 corvette, the Thunderstrike, Corbo attempted to confront her about the death of his felinx, armed with a galley knife. His attempt to reach Chalis was unsuccessful, and he explained the circumstances of his felinx's death to First Sergeant Hazram Namir when questioned about his intentions.

In 5 ABY, Quell, then a New Republic pilot, mentioned the death of her felinx during a conversation with the IT-O Interrogation Unit [IT-O] (/article/it-o) while stranded on a planetoid within the Cerberon system. Quell expressed that the death of the felinx evoked similar feelings to those she experienced when she failed to confess to her father about breaking one of his plates on a separate occasion.

Behind the Scenes

The initial mention of the felinx within the current Star Wars canon occurred in the 2015 novel titled Battlefront: Twilight Company, authored by Alexander Freed. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, the felinx made its first appearance in the 1998 novel The Mandalorian Armor, which serves as the opening installment in The Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy penned by K. W. Jeter.
