A map showing Tunisia with Star Wars filming locations marked Located in North Africa, Tunisia served as a filming location for the initial six Star Wars films, with the notable exception of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back.
The primary filming sites include:
- Chott el Jerid — the exterior location for the Lars homestead.
- Djerba (specifically Sidi Jemour and Ajim)— locations for Ben Kenobi's home, Mos Eisley, and the Anchorhead scenes that were ultimately cut from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope.
- Grand Dune — the setting for the Dune Sea crash site of R2-D2 and C-3PO in Episode IV. Nefta was also filmed in this area.
- Hôtel Sidi Driss — used for the interior shots of the Lars homestead.
- Ksar Hadada, Ksar Medenine, and Ksar Ouled Soltane — these locations represented the Slave Quarters Row.
- Oung Jmel — a distinctive rock formation featured in both Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones, notably for scenes in Mos Espa.
- Sidi Bouhlel — the canyon setting where Luke Skywalker first encounters Ben Kenobi in Episode IV.
