First Order Walker Driver

Operators of First Order Walkers were specialized personnel responsible for the operation of walkers like the First Order All Terrain Armored Transport, the All Terrain MegaCaliber Six, and the All Terrain Heavy Hauler during the First Order and Resistance war. Noteworthy battles they participated in include the Battle of Crait and the Battle of Batuu.

The armor worn by Walker Drivers varied, but all shared similarities with the that worn by stormtroopers, with a distinguishing gray stripe across their helmets. Some helmets mirrored standard stormtrooper helmets, while others featured a reinforced midrib extending over the head, and some even utilized snowtrooper equipment.

Overview

Role

A driver with snowtrooper gear.

First Order Walker Drivers were experts in operating complex vehicles, notably the All Terrain Heavy Hauler, the All Terrain MegaCaliber Six, and the First Order All Terrain Armored Transport.

The MegaCaliber Six was under the direction of an officer who commanded both a pilot and a gunner officer, both of whom were Walker Drivers situated at their stations within the cockpit. Furthermore, two Walker Drivers, acting as weapons engineers, were stationed in the walker's main body, close to the MegaCaliber Six turbolaser cannon on top, with one managing a weapons diagnostics interface. The All Terrain Heavy Hauler's crew consisted of four gunners, clad in Walker Driver armor, operating targeting interfaces on each side. A Walker Driver pilot and co-pilot were located on the tug walker's bridge, overseen by a vehicle commander. The All Terrain Armored Transport's cockpit housed two Walker Drivers.

Equipment

The walker crew at the Battle of Crait wore a gray jumpsuit and a helmet that resembled that of standard First Order stormtroopers. A gray stripe adorned the front right of the helmet. Certain walker drivers sported armor similar to that of snowtroopers, also featuring a gray stripe on the helmet's right side. All Terrain Armored Transport walker drivers aboard the Finalizer wore armor with a helmet akin to a typical stormtrooper's, but with a reinforced midrib having a dark line increasing in width down the forehead.

For combat, the troopers carried a blaster, either an F-11D blaster rifle or an SE-44C blaster pistol.

History

Walker pilots were stationed aboard AT-M6s during the Battle of Crait.

During 34 ABY, First Order Walker Drivers operated All Terrain MegaCaliber Sixes and All Terrain Heavy Haulers in the Battle of Crait against the Resistance. The First Order triumphed on Crait under the command of Supreme Leader Kylo Ren, whose orders from his command shuttle were relayed by General Armitage Hux and Lieutenant Jober Tavson, a Transport Corps member piloting the shuttle. The walkers sustained no losses.

Later, Ren's flagship, the Finalizer, captured Resistance members over Batuu. While the Resistance members were escaping towards the starship's escape pods, they came across a vehicle bay filled with All Terrain Armored Transports. Two Walker Drivers in one of the transports noticed the escaping rebels and activated the walker's laser cannons. The Resistance members, however, dodged the shots and made it to Batuu safely.

Behind the scenes

The First Order Walker Driver was initially mentioned in the LEGO set "75189 First Order Heavy Assault Walker," which was released in 2017 as a tie-in product to Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, the sequel trilogy film that came out later that year. However, the drivers' first canonical appearance was in the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance ride at Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.
