FN-2003, known by the moniker "Slip," was a member of the First Order's stormtrooper ranks, operating in the decades that followed the Galactic Civil War. Serving alongside FN-2187, he was perceived as the weakest member of their unit. His perceived shortcomings were used by Captain Phasma in a pointed address to 2187, where she emphasized how individual weaknesses could compromise the entire First Order. Despite his perceived inadequacies, Slip remained in active combat duty until an assault on the village of Tuanul on Jakku, an event that occurred thirty years after the Battle of Endor.
Within the First Order, FN-2003 functioned as a stormtrooper during the decades succeeding the Galactic Civil War. He often lagged behind his team, which was under the command of FN-2187, during training exercises. This tendency earned him the nickname "Slip." FN-2187 frequently found himself rescuing Slip during these simulations, notably in one scenario where the team was tasked with attacking a New Republic bunker with the mission to destroy a heavy repeating blaster. Following the simulation, Captain [Phasma](/article/phasma] reprimanded Slip and instructed FN-2187 to cease assisting him. Phasma articulated that Slip's weakness made him a liability, and aiding him would ultimately weaken the First Order. However, during a strike on Pressy's Tumble, Slip managed to regain some of Phasma's eyes favor by executing an Abednedo negotiator.
During a First Order raid on a sacred village situated on the planet of Jakku, Slip was struck by blaster fire from Poe Dameron. FN-2187 attempted to aid his fellow soldier, but FN-2003's injury proved to be fatal. Before succumbing to his wounds, Slip wiped his bloody hand across FN-2187's helmet. His unexpected and violent demise was a contributing factor in FN-2187's eventual decision to desert the First Order.
FN-2003 made his initial appearance in the 2015 cinematic release, Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. His name was not mentioned within the film itself, but was revealed in the novel Before the Awakening, authored by Greg Rucka and released concurrently with the movie. The presence of FN-2003 in The Force Awakens was verified in the publication Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary. Pip Andersen played him in the movie, and was credited as "Lead Stormtrooper."
While the film depicts FN-2003 being killed by blaster fire from Poe Dameron, Alan Dean Foster's novelization portrays FN-2003's death as resulting from blaster fire originating from one of the village inhabitants.
