Between the years of 4,000 BBY and an unspecified number of millennia prior to the Imperial Era, the various Gungan tribes residing on the planet of Naboo were engaged in a state of war with one another. This internecine struggle occurred in the aftermath of a previous war that pitted the Gungans against the human colonists who had settled on Naboo. The original reasons for this internal conflict had been lost to time. Eventually, the Gungan Boss named Gallo managed to bring the disparate tribes together under a unified banner, employing both diplomatic negotiations and military force. Leading a substantial Gungan army, Gallo launched an attack against the city of Spearhead, which served as the base of operations for the renegade warlord Boss Rogoe and the remaining Gungan resistance. The destruction of Spearhead marked the end of the war, and Gallo proceeded to establish the united Gungan capital of Otoh Gunga atop the ruins of Spearhead, symbolizing unity and reconciliation.
The initial mention of the war among the Gungans within canon occurred in Nexus of Power, a sourcebook published in 2016 by Fantasy Flight Games for their Star Wars: Force and Destiny roleplaying game. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, the war involving the Gungans was first referenced in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Prima's Official Strategy Guide by Steven L. Kent, which was released on November 7, 2001. Subsequently, it appeared in the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, which was released on November 11 of the same year.
