The Halaisi represented a sentient species located within the galaxy. Exhibiting a humanoid form, their physical structure closely resembled that of humans; they possessed [golden](/article/color]-toned skin, matching eyes, and four [limbs](/article/limb], each ending in a five-fingered hand. Notably, their lips and eyelids could display a blue hue, and they were capable of having black eyebrows. Some Halaisi individuals had the potential to be Force-sensitive.
Rig Nema, originating from [Halais](/article/halais] and belonging to the Halaisi species, held membership in the Jedi Order and functioned as a doctor during the concluding years of the Republic Era. She conducted an examination of Grand Master Yoda in 19 BBY, prompted by concerns from other members of the Jedi High Council regarding his well-being.
The Halaisi made their debut appearance in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars sixth-season episode titled "Voices." This particular episode was initially broadcast on March 1, 2014, in Germany, followed by its release on Netflix in North America on March 7. The character Rig Nema was the first Halaisi seen. The species received its formal identification in the 2021 reference book Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Character Encyclopedia - Join the Battle!, penned by Jason Fry. Nema's visual design was derived from an initial conceptual rendering of Jedi Master Mace Windu, created by Iain McCaig during the pre-production phase of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace. Given that actor Samuel L. Jackson had not yet been chosen for the role, McCaig based his design on Steve Aplin, a modeler at Industrial Light & Magic.
