Hardhear

Hardhear was a male Chadra-Fan who, during the Galactic Empire's reign, made a living as a tracker, collaborating with his grandson, Sissian. Governor Wilhuff Tarkin enlisted the pair's services to aid in locating the Sith Lord Darth Vader on the planet known as Chandar's Folly. These two Chadra-Fan were part of a group consisting of twenty individuals who took part in the hunt; however, by the conclusion of the eighth night, only eight remained alive. Subsequently, Vader launched a surprise attack on the survivors as they traversed an area abundant with crystal formations, which generated echoes, thus hindering Hardhear's ability to pinpoint the Sith's precise location using his auditory senses. As the group attempted to escape, Vader employed the Force to kill Hardhear by choking him.

Biography

Sounds of a Sith

Tarkin hired Hardhear and Sissian to help him hunt Vader.

Hardhear was a male Chadra-Fan who utilized his species' remarkable hearing capabilities to function as a tracker while the Galactic Empire was in reign. In the year 14 BBY, Governor Wilhuff Tarkin engaged Hardhear and his grandson Sissian to assist him in the hunt for the Sith Lord Darth Vader, an ordeal Vader himself requested of Tarkin. Alongside the Chadra-Fan duo, seventeen other hunters accompanied Tarkin to the planet Chandar's Folly, the designated site for the hunt.

Hardhear and Sissian possessed the ability to detect Vader from considerable distances by discerning the sound of his constant mechanical breathing emanating from a cybernetic breathing apparatus. On the second day of the hunt, the group successfully tracked him to a thicket of thurian trees, where they suffered the loss of four individuals during an unsuccessful endeavor to eliminate him with fire. By the sixth day, an additional six men perished while attempting to disarm Vader of his lightsaber and subsequently escape with it.

Ended by echoes

Vader Force choked Hardhear.

On the eighth night, Sissian observed Vader in proximity to the group's encampment, adorned in a cape crafted from the hide of a Valath. Subsequently, Tarkin, accompanied by his seven remaining men, departed from the camp, with the Governor cautioning Hardhear and Sissian to attentively listen for Vader, as his cape would render him challenging to visually detect. The hunters then proceeded into a region characterized by an abundance of crystal formations situated on the border of the Stormlands.

Amidst the crystals, Hardhear detected the auditory presence of Vader but found himself incapable of ascertaining the direction of its origin due to the echoing effect produced by the crystals. Tarkin issued an order for his men to retreat; however, as they fled, Vader levitated Hardhear off the ground through the utilization of the Force, ultimately choking him to death. Two additional hunters met their demise before the group managed to escape, and Sissian, along with the remaining members excluding Tarkin, were subsequently killed after establishing camp in the Stormlands.

Personality and traits

Hardhear communicated in a fragmented form of Galactic Basic Standard, frequently pausing in the midst of sentences. During their flight from Vader, he maintained composure and discipline, refraining from succumbing to panic. He possessed brown hair, a gray complexion, black eyes, and was missing the upper portion of his left ear.

Equipment

Hardhear was attired in an orange jumpsuit and carried a green backpack.
