The pursuit of Sylar Saris was undertaken by the bounty hunter Fennec Shand circa 18 BBY. Finding it difficult to apprehend Sylar Saris independently, Shand sought the assistance of Bad Batch members Hunter and Wrecker for the task. Upon receiving intelligence regarding her target's whereabouts, Shand, accompanied by the two clones, embarked on a journey to the planet Veelo.
The Galactic Empire, in connection with their ongoing Project Necromancer, was determined to capture the young clone Omega following the recent discovery that her blood was suitable for their experiments. Clone Force 99, unaware of this underlying motive, resolved to investigate the Empire's interest in Omega. Their sole clue was the Empire's experiments centered around something called an M-count. The pirate Phee Genoa aided the Batch by gathering information and discovering that the Empire had been employing bounty hunters to capture M-count targets. However, Genoa remained uncertain about the true meaning of this. Omega proposed contacting Fennec Shand, whom Hunter recalled had previously attempted to kidnap Omega. Despite perceiving Shand as a threat, Hunter admitted she might be their only recourse. Genoa suggested she could locate Shand for them. Hunter and Wrecker, wary of Shand's presence around Omega, agreed to meet her alone.

Hunter and Wrecker made their way to Tanda's Cantina aboard the Suria space station, where they encountered Shand negotiating with a Rodian. Shand recognized the clones from their earlier encounter. They indicated their search for information, prompting Shand to dismiss the Rodian client before delving further. Hunter revealed their interest in understanding the Empire's M-count targets. While Shand hadn't pursued such a target herself, she suggested she might know someone who had. Shand stipulated that this information would come at a cost, offering the clones a bounty hunting job. She proposed that if they assisted her, she would procure the information they sought, provided she retained all payment. Having reached this agreement, the trio embarked on their mission.
The three individuals departed in Shand's starship, designated the Outcast. En route, Shand briefed Hunter and Wrecker about their target, Sylar Saris. Known as the "Slayer of Ordo Eris," Saris had undertaken assignments for the Haxion Brood, making him a wanted individual by various powerful entities. Other bounty hunters had pursued Saris before Shand, but none had returned.

According to intelligence Shand had acquired, Saris was in hiding on the planet Veelo. Upon their arrival, Shand donned a breath mask and advised the clones to wear their helmets, as the air on Veelo was toxic. They disembarked at the Veelo docks, where numerous DUM-series pit droids were at work. Shand requested a fast and stable boat from one of the droids, leading them to a hydroskiff. The droid requested ten credits for the ride, a price Shand disputed. The droid adjusted the fare, and the group departed the docks in pursuit of Saris. During their journey, Shand cautioned the others about the dangerous nature of the waters.
After a while, Hunter detected underwater mines in the river. Shand halted the boat and instructed him and Wrecker to enter the water to examine them. The presence of the mines indicated to Shand that they were on the correct path. Hunter suggested finding an alternate route, but Shand believed continuing would provide them with a surprise advantage. Consequently, Hunter and Wrecker disarmed the explosives. As they approached the final mines, Hunter noticed some gryzards approaching them. Shand began firing at the creatures as Hunter and Wrecker hurried back onto the skiff. However, Hunter was seized by a gryzard and dragged underwater. Wrecker leapt in to rescue his brother and engaged in a struggle with the beasts. Eventually, they both returned to the boat, and after repelling more gryzards that had boarded, the group resumed their search.
The hunt progressed into the night, at which point the water currents had become too still for Hunter to determine the correct direction. Annoyed, Shand questioned the two clones' competence. Wrecker responded by reminding her of Omega's past escape from her, to which Shand countered with their failure to prevent Omega's capture by the Empire. Shand inquired about the circumstances surrounding Omega, and the clones' willingness to collaborate with her given their history. She also clarified that the bounty she had placed on Omega had been rescinded by her client, who apparently believed Omega would be safer with the Batch. The clones pointed out Shand's willingness to work for anyone as long as she received payment, with Hunter asserting that money wasn't everything. Shand then commented on their lack of wealth. Examining their surroundings, Hunter concluded that someone had recently passed through their location.

As the group proceeded, Hunter spotted a hideout constructed within a tree. Shand specified that she needed Saris alive. She remained with the boat as a lookout, while the two clones investigated the area, although Wrecker criticized her for making them bear all the risk. Hunter ascended a ladder leading to what initially appeared to be an empty room. However, Saris had concealed himself on the ceiling, lying in wait. He attacked Hunter, and the two engaged in hand-to-hand combat. Hunter attempted to stun Saris multiple times, but Saris evaded the blasts and eventually pinned Hunter by the neck. Wrecker then burst in and knocked Saris back, but Saris slipped around and struck Wrecker before retreating down an underground hatch. Wrecker informed Shand that their target had escaped, prompting her to exit the hydroskiff to investigate.
Saris had returned outside and, noticing the now vacant boat, attempted to flee. To his surprise, Shand had severed a wire on the skiff, preventing the criminal from escaping. Shand confronted Saris, but he once again evaded her and headed for another nearby vessel. The escape attempt was thwarted when Wrecker tackled him to the ground. In retaliation, Saris spat green acid onto Wrecker's helmet and seized his vibroblade. As Saris slashed at Wrecker, Hunter and Shand arrived and fired stun blasts at Saris. After several shots, the insectoid finally collapsed. Wrecker lifted him, and the three returned to Shand's ship.
Back on the Suria space station, Shand prepared to part ways with the clones. Hunter inquired about the information she owed them, but Shand revealed that she did not yet possess it. Instead, she intended to obtain the information after delivering Saris to her client. Hunter objected, stating that it was not part of their initial agreement, so Shand simply said that they could either fight her or trust her. They allowed Shand to depart, hoping she would honor her promise. Aboard her ship, Shand contacted Asajj Ventress to inform her about the clones she had recently worked with. Shand inquired about the M-count bounties and suggested that Ventress could likely locate the Bad Batch without difficulty.
The hunt for Sylar Saris made its debut in the Star Wars: The Bad Batch episode "Bad Territory." However, a clip was initially revealed by ComicBook.com on March 18, and it was hinted at in a post by Kiner Music the following day as part of a series of cryptic tweets alluding to upcoming Bad Batch episodes.
