Imperial armored commandos, alternatively referred to as Imperial commandos or Imperial Super Commando guards, were a special forces group of commando stormtroopers. Operating during the New Republic Era, they were under the direct leadership of Moff Gideon, a warlord affiliated with the Shadow Council of Imperial remnants.
These Imperial armored commandos shared similarities with jetpack troopers due to their utilization of jetpacks. However, instead of the standard plastoid armor used by stormtroopers for protection, they wore armor crafted from beskar. Gideon's Imperial remnant secured this beskar by seizing control of the devastated planet Mandalore. This beskar construction significantly enhanced the troopers' resilience and durability compared to typical soldiers, enabling them to withstand attacks even from a substantial army of skilled Mandalorians.
The commandos were outfitted with white blaster-resistant armor reminiscent of classic stormtrooper armor, but forged from a beskar alloy similar to that used in Mandalorian armor. They also carried jetpacks, vambraces, and blasters. Those commandos assigned to escort Moff Gideon or guard his command center's entrance had red markings on their vambraces, leg armor, and stripes on their helmets. The commandos demonstrated superior marksmanship compared to standard stormtroopers. Their equipment included powerful blaster rifles, a SE-14r light repeating blaster or a long-barrel blaster pistol as a secondary weapon, flamethrowers, whipcord launchers, jetpacks, and a vibro-knife stored in a leg sheath on their right side. Commandos tasked with guarding shield barriers were armed with riot shields and electro riot batons.
The Imperial armored commandos made their first appearance in "Chapter 23: The Spies," which was the second-to-last episode of The Mandalorian's third season. It was broadcast on April 12, 2023. The audio description within the episode officially identified the commandos. Their design seemingly paid tribute to the super trooper concept art by Ralph McQuarrie and Joe Johnston, which eventually evolved into Boba Fett.
