Attack on Jabiim

The Jabiim incident, otherwise known as the attack on Jabiim, involved the Galactic Empire striking the Hidden Path's base located on the planet of Jabiim. Darth Vader, a Dark Lord of the Sith, oversaw the operation from orbit on the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer called Devastator. The Third Sister, newly appointed as Grand Inquisitor, commanded the ground troops. Secretly, she planned to betray Vader as revenge for his slaughter of her Jedi Initiates class during the siege of the Jedi Temple years prior. However, the Sith Lord was aware of her intentions. The real Grand Inquisitor was with Vader, awaiting the opportune moment to reveal himself to the Third Sister.

This assault was a component of the Imperial hunt for the Path, and also the hunt for the surviving Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Through the sacrifice of several Path members, including Tala Durith, Kenobi's new ally, Kenobi and the Path managed to escape after Vader had landed. The Third Sister chose that moment to attack, but Vader and the Grand Inquisitor easily defeated her and left her for dead. Vader then directed the Devastator to pursue the Path's escape vessel, focusing primarily on Kenobi's presence rather than the broader rebel group.

The attack

Imperial assault

Stormtroopers charge into the Path base.

The ground forces, commanded by the Third Sister (after Sith Lord Darth Vader promoted her to Grand Inquisitor), were deployed to the planet after a tracking device was found on L0-LA59, the toy droid belonging to Princess Leia Organa of Alderaan. Their primary mission was to locate and capture Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, with a secondary objective of capturing or eliminating all Path members present. While the Third Sister led the stormtrooper squads in the ground assault, Vader stayed aboard the Devastator in orbit.

During the assault, L0-LA59, controlled by the Galactic Empire via a restraining bolt, trapped the Path within the base. As they fortified their position and prepared to evacuate, Kenobi attempted to buy time by first trying to persuade the Third Sister to join him in defeating Vader, and then by surrendering. Later, Kenobi escaped and boarded a JT-731 Broadhorn transport with the other Path members, while Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader used the Force to pull another transport.

Duel with Reva

The Third Sister proved no match for Darth Vader.

The Third Sister then tried to assassinate Vader, but he defeated her in a lightsaber duel, seriously injuring her and giving her title back to the Grand Inquisitor. The revived Grand Inquisitor and several stormtroopers joined them, and Vader said that the Third Sister was useless to him. The Grand Inquisitor greeted the Third Sister, saying that revenge could fuel the will to live.

After Vader, the Grand Inquisitor, and the remaining troopers left, she saw Kenobi's holoprojector and intercepted a message from Viceroy Bail Prestor Organa, learning that Vader had a son on Tatooine and a daughter on Alderaan that Organa was hiding.

Aftermath

The Devastator pursues Kenobi in his escape craft.

Kenobi and Leia were among the refugees on Roken's ship. Roken told them that the ship's hyperdrive was broken and that the Empire was still chasing them. Kenobi realized his holoprojector was missing but told Roken that everything was fine. The Devastator chased the ship and fired on it until Kenobi, realizing that Vader would focus on hunting him rather than going after the Path, fled the freighter in an escape craft, escaping to a barren moon that Vader followed him to. After the attack on the Path safe house on Jabiim and a subsequent raid on The Archive, a Path base on the moon Jedha, Jedi Knight Cal Kestis and Nightsister Merrin prepared to use the hidden planet Tanalorr as a new home for the Path.
