Jace Rucklin's hangar

Jace Rucklin's personal hangar, situated on the Colossus fueling station, served as the base of operations for Jace Rucklin and his team in 34 ABY. The upper level of this hangar was the primary storage location for his racing starfighter. The upper level was cluttered with various vehicle parts and tools utilized by the crew. Furthermore, it included a sizable platform that could descend a starfighter down to the lower level. Conversely, the lower level had an opening large enough to allow a starship to exit the Colossus. On the lower level of the hangar, Rucklin also kept a couple of speederbikes.

Description

Jace Rucklin's hangar was large enough to store a starfighter.

Located on the Colossus refueling station, Jace Rucklin's hangar was split into two levels, an upper and lower deck. Prominently displayed on the upper deck's wall were the Aurebesh characters "A2," while the doors were labeled "B2." The upper level provided storage for a racing starfighter and incorporated a platform designed to lower a starfighter down to the lower level. The lower deck was equipped with mechanical claws that could secure the wings of a ship lowered from above, suspending it above the waters surrounding the planet of Castilon. Access to the lower area was granted via the Colossus's maintenance shafts. It had sufficient space to accommodate at least two speederbikes and an exit point large enough for a starship to depart the Colossus.

History

The lower deck of Jace Rucklin's hangar

During 34 ABY, Jace Rucklin and his crew, specifically mechanics Lin Gaava and Gorrak Wiles, utilized the hangar. They kept Rucklin's racer on the upper deck, and his blue and orange speederbikes on the lower deck. The hangar was filled with tools and vehicle parts, and was decorated with posters, including Moves. Rucklin, soon after meeting the mechanic Kazuda Xiono (who was avoiding his job), showed him the lower deck's entrance through a maintenance shaft. They agreed to a speederbike race to a nearby sky ring, but Wiles had secretly sabotaged Xiono's bike. After Rucklin rescued Xiono at the race's end, Rucklin's team left Xiono and went back to the hangar's upper level to modify Rucklin's racer.

Xiono, attempting to avoid his boss, Jarek Yeager's, anger, visited the upper deck of the hangar and was impressed by the setup. Rucklin showed Xiono his racer and then convinced Xiono to sneak his team into Yeager's private hangar, supposedly to see Yeager's ship, but actually to steal a container of Corellian hyperfuel. The group waited for Yeager's break and then left Rucklin's hangar to execute Rucklin's plan, with Wiles and Gaava as lookouts. After the successful theft, Gaava, Rucklin, and Wiles returned to the hangar with the stolen goods. As the trio celebrated, Xiono and the astromech droid BB-8 arrived and invited the team to Aunt Z's Tavern for a meal. The crew hid the hyperfuel from Xiono and declined the invitation, citing an upcoming sky race. Xiono wished them luck and left the hangar with BB-8.

Jace Rucklin's team lowered his racer to the hangar's lower deck.

As Rucklin's team began adding the hyperfuel to his racer, Xiono discovered Rucklin's theft and the danger of using the hyperfuel. Xiono raced to the hangar while Rucklin's racer was being lowered from the upper deck for takeoff. Gaava and Wiles watched from above as the racer's engines ignited, suspended by metal clamps over the ocean below. Xiono used the shortcut to the lower deck to arrive before the race started, jumped onto the racer, and pleaded with Rucklin to stop. Ultimately, Xiono ejected both Rucklin and himself from the cockpit before the ship exploded mid-race.

Behind the scenes

Molly Denmark, the senior color key artist for "Fuel for the Fire," created a lighting concept for the hangar's lower deck, which was posted on StarWars.com on March 11, 2019. In the comic adaptation "Fuel for the Fire"—written by Alec Worley, illustrated by Cosmo White, and published by Panini Verlag on November 20, 2019—the lower hangar features a catwalk alongside a ship preparing for takeoff. This article considers the television episode's depiction as canonical.
