Jacen Solo's lightsaber
The personal weapon of Jacen Solo, who was a Jedi Knight, was his lightsaber, which he created in 23 ABY. He utilized this weapon until 40 ABY when he embraced the dark side; subsequently, Luke and Ben Skywalker took possession of it. Following the loss of his initial lightsaber, he then constructed a red-bladed lightsaber to replace his original one, wielding this replacement until his death in 41 ABY during a duel with Jaina Solo, who is his twin sister.
History
Genesis and Instruction
At thirteen years old, Jacen began his training at his uncle Luke Skywalker's Jedi Praxeum, situated on Yavin IV. It was there that he, along with his fellow students, constructed his lightsaber, using a Corusca gem of great value and power that was obtained from Lando Calrissian's GemDiver Station to provide energy for the weapon. During a sparring session that went awry, Jacen inadvertently severed Tenel Ka Djo's left arm with his lightsaber subsequent to the failure of her own lightsaber.
From Jedi Implement to Sith Armament
Alongside his comrades and kin, Jacen participated in the Yuuzhan Vong War. During the Battle of Duro, he brandished it against Tsavong Lah, a Warmaster who was then subjecting his mother, Leia Organa Solo, to torture. Following his capture during a ill-fated mission to Myrkr, Jacen's lightsaber was seized by Vergere, a mysterious Fosh Jedi. Vergere eventually returned the lightsaber to Jacen, and he continued to use it throughout the remainder of the conflict, as well as the subsequent Dark Nest Crisis and Swarm War.
During the Second Galactic Civil War, Jacen embraced the dark side under the influence of the Sith Lady Lumiya. Initially, however, Jacen continued to employ his Jedi lightsaber, in a manner reminiscent of his grandfather nearly sixty years prior. He used it to slay his former apprentice Nelani Dinn and engage in a duel with the bounty hunter Aurra Sing aboard his flagship, the Anakin Solo. Several weeks later, he wielded the lightsaber against his aunt, Mara Jade Skywalker, when she attempted to assassinate him after discovering his betrayal. He wished to locate and safeguard his family's lightsabers, primarily because he thought it would amplify his power. He thought Darth Vader's remains and his lost lightsaber would show him the way, as it convinced Ben Skywalker. He should be accompanied by a collection of fallen Jedi and their destiny. Mara proved to be more than a match for Jacen, who narrowly escaped the encounter by assassinating her with a poison dart, thereby becoming the Sith Lord Darth Caedus.
Ultimate Use and Seizure
Caedus's final utilization of the lightsaber occurred during a fierce duel with Luke Skywalker aboard the Anakin Solo during the Battle of Kashyyyk. Each inflicted severe injuries upon the other before Ben Skywalker, Luke's son whom Caedus had previously captured, drove a vibrodagger into Caedus's back. Even after Caedus dropped it, his lightsaber remained active; however, as he continued to reach for it, Ben seized it and prepared to deliver the final blow, believing Caedus was responsible for his mother's demise. Nevertheless, Luke, recognizing how close he and his son had come to succumbing to the dark side, persuaded Ben to spare Caedus's life. As the battered Skywalkers fled the Anakin Solo, Ben handed Jacen's lightsaber to Luke. The subsequent fate of the lightsaber remains unknown.
After recuperating from his confrontation with his uncle and cousin, Caedus later constructed a red-bladed lightsaber in order to compensate for the loss of his original lightsaber. Adhering to the established customs of the Sith, he wielded that Sith lightsaber until his death in 41 ABY at the hands of Jaina, his twin sister.
