Detailed Plot

Confrontation with Pursuers

On the planet Lahn, Captain Styles informs Commander Grey about the capture of Caleb Dume. The stormtroopers set Janus Kasmir and Kleeve free before returning to their freighter. Kasmir questions Commander Grey's satisfaction in murdering the "kid," but Grey clarifies that it's not about personal satisfaction. Instead, it's about executing a traitor against the Galactic Republic, which he then corrects to the Galactic Empire. Kasmir retorts that the stormtrooper is unaware of his cause, but Grey claims he only follows orders.

Grey and Styles, along with the captive Caleb, head for Kaller aboard a Gozanti-class cruiser. Captain Styles admits that he didn't kill Caleb, choosing instead to bring him back alive. As the ship enters space, Grey reminds Styles of their orders to kill the Jedi and take no prisoners. Styles replies that he wanted to give Grey the honor of finishing Caleb off after everything. Grey states that he doesn't enjoy killing, but sees it as his duty.

Styles declares his intention to execute the traitor with pleasure. Caleb refutes the traitor label, accusing the Clones of betraying his master Depa Billaba by murdering her. Styles claims the Jedi are the traitors, but Dume reminds him of their shared battles. Dume believes the Jedi perished with the Republic and accuses the Clones of being betrayed by Palpatine. Dume argues that Palpatine used the Clones to destroy the Jedi to establish his Empire.

Rescue by Kasmir and Kleeve

Suddenly, they receive a message from the bridge stating that the cruiser has entered Kalleran space. Before Styles can kill Dume, he uses the Force to throw the stormtroopers away. At that moment, the Gozanti cruiser is chased by two ships: Kasmir's Kasmiri and Kleeve in the Escape. Capitalizing on the distraction, Caleb uses the Force to open the chamber, exposing them to the vacuum of space. Dume is pulled into space, but the Clone troopers manage to hold on and restore the gravity.

Kasmir rescues Dume, expressing his surprise that his friend survived the ordeal. While the Clone officers presume Dume is dead, they decide to attack the enemy ships. Kleeve warns Kasmir that the Imperial freighter has activated its deflector shields and is charging its weapons. He offers to jam their communications and questions why they are risking their lives for a child. Kasmir admits he doesn't understand, and Kleeve adds that he only cares that it's not him. The two attack the freighter, damaging its hull.

Styles is determined to hunt down and destroy the freighters. However, Grey begins to doubt the Empire, agreeing with Caleb that Billaba was their hero. Grey remembers following Order 66 as if under a spell that controlled him. Styles dismisses Grey's doubts, arguing that questioning orders leads to death. Grey counters that people died anyway and expresses remorse for his role in killing Master Billaba.

Styles warns Grey that he sounds like a Jedi "traitor" and reiterates that they had to do what they did. Styles demands to know why the enemy ships are still flying. Kleeve's ship suffers a hit to its hyperdrive, with its aft deflector shields at eight percent. Meanwhile, the Kasmiri's shields are at ten percent. Dume convinces Kasmir and Kleeve to launch a coordinated strike to create an escape opportunity.

As the Kasmiri and Escape charge at the Gozanti freighter, Grey opens fire on the bridge crew, seeking atonement for his betrayal of Billaba and Dume. His actions disable the freighter's shields, allowing Kasmir and Kleeve's ships to destroy the freighter in a single pass. Kleeve and Kasmir are surprised by their victory, with Kasmir suggesting the freighter's shields were weaker than they thought. Meanwhile, Dume struggles with the realization that his former friends Grey and Styles are dead.

Diverging Paths

Upon returning to Kaller, Kasmir suggests making repairs and resuming their work. Dume announces his intention to end their partnership, stating that he has learned all he could from Kasmir. Kasmir believes Dume is protecting himself from further loss. Dume argues that they are better off alone, but Kasmir disagrees, calling him "kid."

An angered Dume demands that Kasmir stop calling him "kid" and tackles him. He declares that he is taking the second ship, Escape. He suggests that Kasmir partner with Kleeve or pay him from Dume's share. Dume reiterates that they are finished. Kasmir accepts Dume's decision and allows him to retrieve his master's holocron and lightsaber.

As Caleb departs on the Escape, Kasmir wishes him luck. However, Dume replies that Caleb died with Depa Billaba before flying away. Taking on the name Kanan Jarrus, he journeys to Moraga where he encounters Morfizo.

Back to Kaller

Back in the present during the Imperial Era, Hera Syndulla calls out to Kanan, asking if he is present and what she was saying. Hera reminds him that they are about to land on Kaller to get supplies. The other Spectres, including Ezra Bridger, Garazeb Orrelios, Chopper, and Sabine Wren, are also in the cockpit. When Hera asks Kanan if he has ever visited Kaller, Kanan lies and claims he has never been there.
