Killun 71

Killun 71, a moon nestled within the Outer Rim Territories, fell under the control of the Galactic Empire in the years preceding the Galactic Civil War. Its rugged, rock-strewn landscape presented considerable challenges to colonization efforts, yet the Empire established an operational base, Killun Station, perched atop one of its prominent rocky formations. Seeking access to crucial codes related to rebel activities on the planet Lothal, the rebel group Phoenix Squadron executed an infiltration of the station, successfully extracting classified Imperial data.

Description

Situated in the Outer Rim Territories, Killun 71 was a moon that occupied grid square T-6 on the Standard Galactic Grid. It was positioned along a hyperspace route that provided a link to both the planet Mon Cala and the celestial object Florn. Orbiting near a significantly larger, white astronomical body, the moon exhibited a green hue when viewed from space. This coloration stemmed from a pervasive layer of mist present in its atmosphere. Its surface was characterized by expansive, rocky outcroppings and uneven terrain, rendering it difficult to colonize.

History

The Imperial base Killun Station sat on one of the moon's jagged landmasses prior to the Galactic Civil War.

Despite the presence of substantial, jagged rock formations on the moon, the Galactic Empire operated an outpost on Killun 71 known as Killun Station. Managed by the Imperial Security Bureau, Killun Station housed sensitive information and orbital clearance codes pertaining to the planet Lothal. This made the base a high-priority target for Phoenix Squadron, a rebel cell that was in the planning stages of an assault on Lothal.

In the year 2 BBY, Wedge Antilles and the droids C1-10P and AP-5, all members of Phoenix Squadron, carried out an infiltration of Killun Station with the goal of obtaining the Lothal codes. Although Chopper was compromised by Imperial Information Office Controller LT-319, the two droids ultimately achieved success in their assigned mission.

Locations

Killun Station, an outpost manned by humans and droids affiliated with the Imperial Security Bureau, was situated on one of Killun 71's irregular landmasses. Given the delicate nature of the data stored within the base, security measures were particularly stringent. Stormtroopers were positioned at all entry points, and the base was equipped with walkthrough identification scanners.

Behind the scenes

Concept art of Killun 71 for "Double Agent Droid"

Killun 71 was initially featured in "Double Agent Droid," the nineteenth episode of the third season of the animated television series Star Wars Rebels, which aired on Disney XD. The episode was broadcast on March 11, 2017. It is believed that the name "Killun 71" is an allusion to Kilian Plunkett, the art director for Star Wars Rebels, who was born in 1971. According to Dave Filoni, the series' creator, the environmental design employed for the landscape of Killun 71 was derived from a concept that had been previously developed for an unproduced episode of the television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. In that episode, the clones would have attempted to independently capture Sith Lord Dooku.
