A Klivian was a type of alcoholic beverage concocted by Rebel pilot Derek "Hobbie" Klivian before his demise during the conflict in 3 ABY. Fermented inside a repurposed astromech unit, this Klivian drink was based on root vegetables and possessed a citrus-like flavor. Even though most people thought the Klivian was unpleasant to drink, Hobbie's flight companions, specifically aviators Wedge Antilles and Wes Janson, continued to prepare and serve the beverage after Hobbie's death to honor their friend. A collection of Rebellion pilots, including Antilles and Janson, imbibed Klivians the evening before the Battle of Endor took place in 4 ABY.

The Alliance to Restore the Republic airman Derek "Hobbie" Klivian was responsible for the Klivian's creation. With an orange hue, the booze was made from tubers and brewed inside a modified R2-series astromech droid. It gave off a potent aroma of both citrus and engine gas, and the flyer Norra Wexley likened its taste to carbon scoring.
The drink was typically dispensed in drinking glasses, mugs, or damaged metal pitchers. Humans, Sullustans, and Kel Dor could all drink it. Although very few actually enjoyed the flavor of Klivian, it could function as a palate cleanser and was also a means of paying tribute to the deceased pilot.

Following Klivian's passing during the Battle of Hoth fought in 3 ABY, his flight comrades Wedge Antilles and Wes Janson kept brewing the beverage, naming it in honor of their late friend. The evening before the Rebel assault on the Galactic Empire's second Death Star space station in 4 ABY, a collection of pilots, including Antilles, Janson, Norra Wexley, Nien Nunb, a Kel Dor, and Alliance commanding officer Lando Calrissian, talked about the drink while on board the capital ship Home One. While Antilles, Janson, and Wexley had tasted the beverage before, several others had not. When Wexley remarked that she thought a robot must have brewed it, given how terrible she felt it tasted, Antilles explained that the squadron had been maintaining the process since Klivian's passing.
Janson then suggested that Antilles procure a serving of Klivians for everyone, and despite some objections, Antilles complied. Calrissian was disgusted by the drink, while Nunb immediately spat it out after tasting it. In contrast, the Kel Dor was unaffected by the drink and even found it palatable, which greatly impressed Wexley. Later, Calrissian jokingly offered to buy Antilles another serving of Klivians as they walked toward a water dispenser.
The Klivian made its initial appearance in the short story "The Buy-In," penned by Suzanne Walker and featured in the 2023 compilation From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi.
